Most-watched soccer games: Nov. 21-Dec. 3, 2017

Liga MX’s Liguilla has nearly come to an end, averaging 1.051 million viewers per match through the semi-final round. Single-match viewership peaked in the quarter-final round as 2.174 million viewers tuned in as Club América closed out the aggregate 0-0 series to advance and to face Tigres in the semi-finals via the high seed tiebreaker. Club América’s semi-final series against Tigres averaged 1.785 million viewers despite América being demolished 4-0 on aggregate. When compared to the 2016 Apertura, Liguilla viewership is down 31% on Univision’s networks with Chivas de Guadalajara’s failure to qualify for the Liguilla likely playing a large role in decreased viewership.

Major League Soccer has seen a 13% increase in television viewership through the Conference Finals on ESPN, ESPN2, FS1, UniMás and Univision Deportes Network, from 249,063 average viewers in the 2016 edition to 281,438 average viewers in 2017. The Columbus Crew have become quite the draw during their playoff run, averaging 382,600 viewers for their 5 playoff matches this season.

The Premier League on NBC has seen two consecutive matches reach the 1 million viewer mark for the first time since January as Liverpool-Chelsea played before an audience 1.052 million with Arsenal-Manchester United just 7 days later drawing 1.017 million to the broadcast network. This also marks just the second and third time a Premier League match has broken 1 million viewers this season.

Liga MX is the king of soccer in America. EPL seems like they’re getting better numbers. Meanwhile, MLS still getting their as*es handed to them by producing a much inferior product.
