Despite being 34-years-old, an age at which most professional soccer players begin thinking about retirement, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still thriving with Paris Saint-Germain. The striker has already netted a total of 31 goals (as well as 15 assists) during the current campaign. Although many fans and pundits will claim that the French Ligue 1 is not exactly the most defensive league in the world, as it is certainly not, Ibrahimovic is also performing exceptionally well in the Champions League competition.

On Wednesday, Ibrahimovic guided his PSG team past Chelsea in the knockout phase of the European tournament. The Sweden international set up teammate Adrien Rabiot to open the scoring in the 15th minute of the massive match in London.  After Chelsea striker Diego Costa hit the back of the net to level the match 1-1, Ibrahimovic scored the eventual match-winner in the second half and gave PSG a 4-2 tally on aggregate.

With the player currently in the final year of his contract with the French giants, there is much speculation on where he will ply his trade next season.  Ibrahimovic definitely has options.  One of these options is to re-sign with PSG for at least another year.  The Parisians are dominating Ligue 1 with Ibra in their side and progressing into the Champions League quarterfinals as well.  Nevertheless, it is understood that the club will be looking to pry one of three superstars away from other big teams in Europe.

Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly PSG’s number one target for the upcoming summer transfer period.  The Real Madrid player isarguably the best player in the world and would seemingly cost a fortune if PSG could pry him away from the Spanish club.  If a bid for Ronaldo fails, the French club is said to be interested in Ronaldo’s teammate at Real Gareth Bale and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.  A PSG move for one of the aforementioned trio and Ibrahimovic could be on his way out of Paris.

If this was the case, Ibrahimovic has allegedly “privately identified” Arsenal as a team that he would be interested in joining.  The striker has previously turned down a trial with the Gunners when the player was 17 and playing in Sweden.  After all, “Zlatan doesn’t do auditions<.”

Nevertheless, a potential deal for Ibrahimovic this time around would significantly improve Arsenal’s attack.  An addition of the 34-year-old striker could be exactly with the north London club needs to pull off a Premier League triumph.  Gunners fans are likely salivating at the possibility of Ibra joining forces with midfielder Mesut Özil.  The German is without a doubt one of the best number 10’s in the game and his 18 assists are currently tops in the Premier League.

On Friday, Ibrahimovic’s agent Mino Raiola claimed that the player’s future has already been decided.  “We know what we want,” said Raiola.  “But we won’t say anything until the summer when the season is over.  We have a clear idea of what we want to do.  I know what he’s counting on doing, but we don’t want you to know for the moment.”

The secrecy could be seen as a hint that the player may be leaving PSG.  Under normal circumstances, there wouldn’t be any real reason to keep a player’s future under wraps if he was to stay with his current club. However, recent reports in France have suggested that both Ibrahimovic and PSG are open to renewing the 34-year-old’s contract, keeping Ibra in Paris for at least one additional season.  In the end, both Arsenal and PSG fans will be paying close attention any news on Ibrahimovic’s future.
