Hosts Chile play holders Uruguay in the first quarter-final of the 2015 Copa America tournament at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos.

The two sides come into this match under much different circumstances. Chile were impressive in their group and picked up seven of the nine available points to finish in top spot while Uruguay struggled throughout the group phase and only managed to sneak into the quarter-finals as one of the two best third placed sides.

The most impressive aspect of this Chile side is their attacking prowess which they showed by scoring a whooping 10 goals in three games which is six more than any other side managed in the same period.

Uruguay, on the other hand, have been largely disappointing with one win, one draw and one loss in Group B but to be fair, it was always going to be difficult given the quality of opposition in their group.

The La Celeste have the advantage when it comes to the head-to-head record between the sides with seven wins and just two losses from the last 14 matches.

Another thing to give Uruguay supporters cause for optimism is their impeccable record in the quarter-finals of this tournament. They have reached this stage in six of the last seven editions and won on each occasion.

The same cannot be said of Chile who have not progressed past the quarter-final stage since 1991.

Team News

The big news for the Uruguayans is that striker Edison Cavani may miss out of this one due to his father’s arrest following a car incident. The PSG forward has not particularly played well at this tournament but he is still one of their biggest threats going forward and will surely be missed if he does not eventually play.

Meanwhile, defender Diego Godin is available after serving his suspension and he should replace Sebastian Coates in the center of defense while Abel Hernandez may also retain his place in the side.

For Chile, manager  Jorge Sampaoli has all his players fit and available including Arturo Vidal who remains a free man despite allegedly drunk driving his Ferrari and crashing it in Santiago.
