Japan vs Switzerland and USA vs Australia

uswnt-australia

The US Women’s National Team has been waiting four years to get to play in another Women’s World Cup match to try to avenge its loss from the 2011 Women’s World Cup final when the team was defeated by Japan on penalty kicks after finishing the 90 minutes at 1-1.

Here are the TV times of this game and the Japan-Switzerland game that follows on FOX Sports 1.

United States v Australia

7:30 PM – FOX Sports 1
Group D
Winnipeg Stadium

Be sure to check out our preview of the USA-Australia game.

Japan v Switzerland

10PM- FOX Sports 1
Group C
BC Place Stadium

In the most interesting matchup of Group C, Japan and Switzerland are the two teams most likely to come out of this group. This first match may decide who will take first and second.

Switzerland was a goal-scoring machine in their qualifying campaign but if they do not possess the ball, they will not be able to create scoring opportunities. That should be Japan’s game plan early on. The Nadeshiko need to play their game and possess the ball while limiting chances for the opposition.

Switzerland will want to play a higher tempo than Japan might like. At the center of that pace will be Lara Dickenmann. The Swiss midfielder is the offensive lynchpin for her team and will be looking to disrupt the Japanese possession in the midfield.

Who are the announcers for this match? It’s painfully horrible!

Can’t say the equalized wasn’t deserved. US can’t get any momentum or possession going, caught a lucky break for the goal and Solo saved them twice…The Aussie player who scored the goal has been tormenting the left fullback for the US all day…it’s a very entertaining high pace game to watch.

I also caught the tail end of Sweden-Nigeria after work…US will have to work very hard to get out of that group…

I know it is even but the Aussies much the better side. If not for Solo it could be 3 or 4 to 1. US back four imitating MUFC back four.

Beating a dead horse here, I know, but having all games on fake turf has cheapened the value of this tournament.

What a slap in the face of women’s soccer by FIFA.

Shame! Football must never be played on fake turf, unless Antarctica is hosting the games in dead of winter.

Agree with you 100%. All the calls for equality and then they jam the mickey mouse turf down their throats. Never ever happen in the Men’s WC.

Do they not have any grass up there? What a joke. It’s almost unwatchable.

The game hasn’t even started yet but Australia looks really nervous.

Aussies look better in the beginning. Not sure what you see in So FLA. 🙂

Nah, I was talking about pre-match. They looked nervous during the national anthems, etc.

Nike really deserve to be fired for that awful kit. Shocking.

National anthem sounds like it’s on fast forward.

I still think they designed it for TV, where it looks better from a distance.

There is no distance that could make that abomination look good. Complete misfire. Everyone in the crowd wearing the away jersey. Almost zero takers for the Fulham cast off.
