Atletico Madrid defender Miranda has refused to confirm whether or not he leave the club in the near future.

Last month, the Brazilian center-back was linked with a move away from the La Liga champions this summer.

In recent years, Miranda has formed one of the best defensive partnerships in Europe with teammate Diego Godin. But the veteran defender has only made 17 league appearances this season due to mounting injuries and the rapid rise of 20-year-old Uruguayan centre-back, Jose Gimenez.

Last summer, Miranda turned down bids from Manchester United and Chelsea in order to remain with Atletico Madrid. However, it is now believed the club are ready to listen to offers for the defender, while the player himself is looking to sign one last big deal before he retires.

His current deal with the Spanish champions is set to expire in June 2016, and the club has yet to offer him an extension.

Speaking after Brazil’s 3-1 friendly victory over France, the 30-year-old center-back insisted he was only thinking about playing football and ensuring Atletico continued fighting for titles.

“I’m at ease. I have a contract for one more year and must only think about playing football, enjoying the minutes I get at Atletico and ensuring my team continues fighting for titles,” Miranda told the Spanish newspaper, AS.

“I just want to finish strongly and enjoy every minute I spend at Atletico because they are a great team.”

When asked about the competition between centre-backs at the club, and whether this would be his “farewell” season in Spain, the Brazilian responded: “No. I have another year left and I’ll try to fulfill it.”

“Competition is always good for a team like ours. A big team must have quality players ready to give everything.”
