Louis van Gaal declares Manchester United as his last job

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has promised to quit soccer after his job at Old Trafford is done.

The 63-year-old only took control of affairs last summer but believes he won’t be in soccer management after United. He has already managed at Barcelona, Ajax and Bayern Munich, as well as leading his national side to third at the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.

Speaking to The Guardian, Van Gaal said: “This [Manchester United] is my last job. For sure. I have to pay attention to my kids, my grandchildren but also to my wife. They deserve it. Now I cannot pay that attention. I was not at the birthday of my grandson for example. I don’t like it.”

However, he is still under contract with United until 2017 and his philosophy appears to be paying dividends at last if the win against Tottenham is anything to go by.

Speaking ahead of the weekend’s big clash at Liverpool, Van Gaal thinks his side is getting closer to the finished product after a great team performance last weekend

“Against Spurs you have seen that. That shows they can do things together as a team. That takes time. In Germany [at Bayern], it took until December. And now until March [with United].”

When quizzed on United’s top four ambitions, he continued: “That’s our goal, yes, and it depends on how we end this season. We have to qualify for the Champions League and we have many tests next year. That also develops the level of your team, and of course how many players can come in to improve our selection.”
