It was a great week to watch La Liga, there were so many goals and outstanding performances that it was tough to choose a Team Of The Week. By the way, all those that knock football for being boring should look at Sunday in La Liga as an example of what “The Beautiful Game ” is all about, GOALS. No question that the TOW scored goals. The winner played matches and/or made headlines during the calendar week of Mar. 2 – 8 and the winner is:
Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña
The team located on Spain’s West Coast played in the highest scoring game of the weekend when they beat Racing Santander 5-3 at the Riazor. Depor sealed the win with a 4 goal flurry in a 17 minute span in the 2nd half highlighted by two goals by Riki. The flurry helped Depor overcome a 2-1 deficit and see their unbeaten run extend to 6 games.
Deportivo’s victory vaulted them over Atletico Madrid into 6th place and a UEFA Europa League spot and just 3 points from 4th place and a Champions League spot. For scoring 5 goals and moving into a European spot, Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña wins the La Liga Team Of The Week for Week 26.
