<p>Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi will leave The Seagulls after the season ends, the club announced on Saturday. The shock announcement was made “at a time that suits both parties allowing [Brighton] to plan for next season, and [De Zerbi] plenty of time to consider his next move,” the club statement read.</p>



<p>The departure opens up a whole world of possibilities. Brighton has a cast of young, up-and-coming managers it can choose from. At the same time, De Zerbi could have his pick from Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Juventus, and Milan. It’s a head-spinning array of choices for both manager and club.</p>



<h2>Brighton eyes replacement</h2>



<p>According to reports, Brighton is reportedly <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/roberto-zerbi-leave-brighton-following-145404683.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">keen</a> on <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/ipswich-town-tv-schedule/">Ipswich</a> manager Kieran McKenna. Ipswich recently won promotion from the Championship, which will get them their first Premier League season since 2001.</p>

<p>McKenna has played a huge part in Ipswich’s success thanks to his exciting, enterprising brand of soccer. Although <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/united-eye-familiar-face-newcomer-to-epl-to-replace-ten-hag/">United reportedly reached out to McKenna</a>, Brighton is still in the race for the manager.</p>



<p>Ex-Brighton gaffer Graham Potter and struggling Burnley coach Vincent Kompany are also on Brighton’s shortlist.</p>

<h2>De Zerbi has list of suitors</h2>



<p>With De Zerbi’s imaginative tactics and immediate success, several elite European sides could recruit him to join the 2024-25 season. </p>



<p>After Thomas Tuchel decided to leave <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/bayern-munich-tv-schedule/">Bayern</a> amid a tumultuous season, Bayern are eyeing De Zerbi as a possible replacement. Sporting director Max Eberl reportedly listed De Zerbi as their top target to take over. They’re expected to shell out around $13 million on their new “Guardiola”. Eberl likes his attractive playstyle, and he feels like De Zerbi could step in and make a difference with the current squad.</p>



<p><a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/ac-milan-tv-schedule/">Milan</a> is also heavily interested in De Zerbi, as the Italian giants will let manager Stefano Pioli leave at the end of the season. AC Milan is De Zerbi’s boyhood club and where he spent his academy days, and he’s flirted a lot with rejoining <em>I Rossoneri</em>.</p>



<p>“I love Italy and Italian football. One of the goals I have is to return to coaching in Italy, I don’t know when it will happen,” he <a href="https://sempremilan.com/de-zerbi-confirms-desire-coach-italy-milan">told</a> Sky Sports.</p>



<p>However, it’s unsure whether Milan has ever been in contact with De Zerbi. The higher-ups at San Siro also reportedly want an international coach over an Italian one.</p>



<p>Other clubs like Manchester United (if manager Erik ten Hag leaves), Juventus, and Barcelona are interested. However, Bayern is the firm favorite to sign De Zerbi to a contract.</p>

<p>The possibility of Erik ten Hag losing his Manchester United job this summer is not new. Keeping the Dutch manager for his last year on the job seems quite improbable. <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/manchester-united-tv-schedule/">United</a> may not make it to Europe this season, thus it’s more probable that they will fire him after a dismal season.</p>



<p>Even if injuries haven’t helped, the ex-Ajax coach deserves a lot of criticism for his tremendous struggles this season. The Red Devils will likely miss out on <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/where-to-watch-uefa-champions-league-and-europa-league-on-us-tv-and-internet/">UEFA Champions League</a>, capping off a disastrous term.</p>



<p>Similarly, they have not been successful in winning any big trophies. Although, they will still face Manchester City in the <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/fa-cup-tv-schedule/">FA Cup</a> final; whether or not they manage to finish the season well is an open question.</p>



<p>Ten Hag’s side, however, has performed poorly, and it has not capitalized on recent acquisitions. Poor transfers have not brought life to this dismal Manchester United squad</p>

In recent months, there has been an increase in the number of links pointing to possible substitutes. Various media have since connected several coaches to the position, including Thomas Frank, Thomas Tuchel, and Gareth Southgate.</p>



<h2>New surprising name emerges</h2>



<p>One unexpected candidate to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United after the current season is <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/crystal-palace-fails-to-get-ipswich-manager-stays-with-hodgson-20240213-WST-489324.html">Kieran McKenna</a>. He has risen through the ranks after two promotions at Portman Road. Several other Premier League teams are showing serious interest in Ipswich’s manager.</p>



<p>“He [McKenna] is believed to be under serious consideration to take over from Ten Hag should United decide to bring an end to his tenure after a disappointing second season in charge, with the co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe poised to review his position after the FA Cup final against Manchester City a week on Saturday,” <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/football/article/2024/may/14/manchester-united-ponder-move-for-kieran-mckenna-if-ten-hag-departs" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Guardian</a> says.</p>

<p>United and McKenna’s agents have reportedly already established contact. However, their sources indicate that it is still early in the process. After six years as an assistant coach at Old Trafford, McKenna took over as head coach of Ipswich in December 2021.</p>



<p>Initially coaching the Under-18s squad, McKenna remained with boyhood club Manchester United from 2016 until 2021. He went on to work with Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Ralf Rangnick after that.</p>



<p>But several players reportedly disliked him near the conclusion of his tenure with the Red Devils, as per <a href="https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/manchester-united-open-talks-with-kieran-mckenna-despite-claims-ipswich-boss-disliked-by-old-trafford-stars-b1157856.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Standard</a>. Speculations circulated that players didn’t receive well his training techniques and demeanor.</p>



<h2>Kieran McKenna is a noted Manchester United supporter</h2>



<p>However, United supposedly has ample respect for McKenna because of his part in leading the Suffolk team to their first Premier League participation since 2002. This past season, the Englishman helped the Blues earn promotion to the <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/watch-premier-league-on-us-tv-internet/">Premier League</a>. He has a 193-goal, 194-point total in his first two full seasons as a senior manager. </p>



<p>For as long as he can remember, McKenna has been an ardent fan of Manchester United.</p>



<p>“To go to Manchester United, there is no bigger move you can make. It’s a dream come true really. I was a massive United fan. My dad brought me over to my first game in the 1994 season to see them lift the Premier League trophy”, he said in 2016.</p>

<p>Norwich City moved back into the play off places as they routed ten man Ipswich, as Grant Holt bagged a derby day hat trick which may just signal the end of Roy Keane’s tenure at Portman Road.</p>
<p>Recent snowfall and near freezing conditions did little to thaw a heated derby atmosphere, as a record crowd witnessed a fiery and incident filled derby that will put an entire city on a high as they return to work on Monday morning..&nbsp;</p>
<p>The tone of the afternoon was set as Norwich captain Grant Holt was booked for a crunching challenge that on other days would have been deemed worthy of a red card. &nbsp;</p>
<p>Norwich started the game the stronger winning the 50/50’s and outrunning and outpassing&nbsp;Ipswich, putting pressure on the Ipswich defensive line and fully deserving the lead they gained on thirteen minutes.</p>
<p>The goal was calamitous and a disaster for defender Darren O’Dea who dallied with a through ball allowing Grant Holt to pounce and power his way through one on one with Marton Fulop who was unable to prevent Holt sliding the ball past him and into the back of the net.</p>
<p>However Ipswich responded well to going behind and hit back through Damien Delaney just over ten minutes later through a&nbsp;well worked move amid dismal defending from the Canaries.</p>
<p>However Norwich were still overall the better side and the signing of Henri Lansbury on loan has already paid dividends, as the under 21 international played a delightful through ball to put Grant Holt one on one with Fulop once again and the striker finished with aplomb.</p>
<p>Things went from bad to worse for Ipswich as just moments after the goal Damien Delaney was sent off for taking out Grant Holt around 35 yards from goal as he was about to break clear.</p>
<p>Ipswich were able to survive until half time despite Norwich chances and incessant pressure, the sending off putting Ipswich on the back foot in an overall poor half for Roy Keane’s men.</p>
<p>Ipswich were able to regroup at half time and game out more resilient and organised, but rarely threatened the opposition goal as the pace and drama lessened although Norwich still looked a threat going forward.</p>
<p>The final fifteen minutes of the game however poured salt into Ipswich wounds as Norwich found a killer instinct to secure victory against a tiring ten man opposition.</p>
<p>The third goal completed a Grant Holt hat trick as Chris Martin outfoxed the defence with some fancy footwork inside the area to set up his team mate who coolly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner of the net to complete a hat trick of composed finishes.</p>
<p>Just two minutes later Wes Hoolahan completed the misery for Ipswich with a chipped finished from a tight angle to put the game beyond any doubt and put Carrow Road in party mode. Much respect has to go to the Norwich fan who at this point decided to go topless whirling his shirt as he danced and sang gloating songs at the Ipswich fans in freezing temperatures.</p>
<p>Overall this was a comprehensive victory for Norwich, who were on their game from the first whistle, the sending off of Damien Delaney may have made the victory more comfortable but this was a worrying display for fans of the tractor boys who have now lost four games on the bounce.</p>
<p>Beyond the bragging rights of derby victory the underlying issue to emanate from the result today is the mounting pressure on Roy Keane’s position. Losing to your bitter rivals is difficult for fans to accept and this could be the result that convinces them and the chairman that now is the time for change.</p>

<p>Anybody could tell you that Ipswich Town’s 1-0 victory over fellow strugglers Derby on Saturday was a vital result. Defeat or another draw from the team and the alarm bells may of been ringing frantically at Portman Road, but 15 games into the 09/10 season and the Suffolk outfit have finally put a win on the board. Although they remain at the foot of the Championship table, fans danced in jubilation after the final whistle had gone at the weekend; and this hard fought one goal victory will lead them on to piecing together some decent form.</p>
<p>Ipswich’s poor season has surprised quite a lot of people this season. Many people backed Roy Keane to take the club on to the next level and bring success, but quite the opposite has occurred in Keano’s first full campaign in charge. The team has struggled both at the back and front this season, holding the second worst goal difference in the league with only Plymouth keeping them off the bottom spot by one goal. Counago, Walters, Priskin and Stead have accumulated seven goals between them this season and the players at the back have often lacked concentration when under pressure.</p>
<p>Keane certainly has had backing from the board and fans alike. Many other boards would have dismissed a manager who had failed to get a win in 14 games; particularly with the amount of financial backing Keane was given. But it appears that Ipswich are looking at the bigger picture and see this season as part of a jigsaw that will hopefully be completed with the club in the Premiership at some point. Fans have often said that they trust Keane and have kept a lot of optimism throughout the rough period. And why not, its obvious when looking at the clubs squad that they have a lot of quality, including a lot of players Keane knows well and who have a lot of Championship experience.</p>
<p>And I am sure the fans have no doubt that their next fixture away to Reading is just as important, if not more, than the Derby game. Reading are also flirting with the bottom of the table, but managed to beat Coventry convincingly 3-1 and although Coventry also have poor form, nothing should be taken away from their victory. The Madjeski stadium has seemed more like a ruin than a fortress this season, with only 1 goal scored by the club at home in the last 5 games there. Reading must also be aware that although Ipswich just picked up their first victory, they have only failed to score once away from home this season.</p>
<p>But after such a great victory on the road why wouldn’t Reading players feel that Saturday’s game is the perfect opportunity for them to give the home fans something to celebrate about? Over coming a team like Coventry by a comfortable margin will give them all the information they need to let them know that they can come out on top against the teams in a similar situation to themselves. They will look to <a href="http:\/\/www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football/readingfc/s/2060022_grzegorz_rasiak_hungry_to_score_for_reading_fc">the hungry Grezgorz Rasiak</a> to fire them to victory on Saturday, as he appears to be one of the only players at the club who has a finishing touch. In their last home game the club had seventeen shots against Leicester and ended up losing 1-0; manager Brendan Rodgers has no doubt attempted to solve their goal shyness.</p>
<p>Ipswich fans will hope that their team will start to finally pick up form and a win at Reading would be the perfect way for the club to do this. Another draw will do nothing special for the club and they really need to beat the teams close to them so they can get away from the foot of the table as soon as possible. The next step for the club is to pick up their first away win of the season and if they can beat Reading on Saturday then it will also help them gain confidence which nobody can doubt the importance of. Jonathan Walters put in a good shift against Derby and Roy Keane will be hoping he can do a similar sort of job and also bag a goal or two when they face Reading. Keane has certainly moved quickly to bring his players back down to earth,&nbsp;<a href="http:\/\/www.ipswich.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=175911">criticising their overall performance against Derby</a>.</p>
<p>I would encourage any football fan to keep an eye on this game, even though it could end up being a tense and tight affair it could so easily go the other way. Both teams have just recorded much needed victories and both will see each other as the ideal opponent to get their season back on track. Defeat could see Brendan Rodgers lose his job and despite <a href="http:\/\/www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11673_5655564,00.html">Sir John Madjeski apparently backing him</a> 16 wins without a win at home may prove too much for the Reading board. Ipswich can’t let a club like Reading get further away from them and they definitely need to string results together to get out of their situation at the bottom of the table. Many people would consider this a ‘6 pointer’, even in November and it will be interesting to see the aftermath of the game; a good result for either team can help kick start their season.</p>

<p>Despite all the bad feelings generated by Dave Kitson’s recent comments, Saturday was a day to feel good about the FA Cup. It was a big day for the lower division clubs as they stepped up to pull off several upsets and make other games very close.</p>
<p>First off, Everton were knocked out of the FA Cup 1-0 by League One side Oldham Athletic in the third round on Saturday, becoming one of four Premier League sides to go out to lower league opposition. Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers were the other upset victims, while Havant &amp; Waterlooville carried the minor league flag into Monday’s fourth-round draw after snatching a late 1-1 draw at third division leaders Swansea. One other upset saw League Two Peterborough produce a dominant display to dump Championship Colchester out by a score of 3-1.</p>
<p>It was not all doom and gloom for the Premier League sides as current FA Cup holders Chelsea beat Queens Park Rangers 1-0 at home while last year’s runners-up Manchester United went through with a 2-0 success at Aston Villa.</p>
<p>Luckily for me, the ManUtd – Aston Villa game was on FSC Canada today. They also showed the Ipswich – Portsmouth game earlier in the morning and both were decent. Ipswich put up a great fight after going down to 10 men and if not for David James they could have forced a replay or maybe even pulled off an upset.</p>
<p>The ManUtd – Villa game was quick paced but both sides had trouble breaking past the back four. Things turned when Rooney came on and he combined with Ronaldo effectively. Villa will probably be disappointed with their performance as until the 80th minute, the game was there for the taking had they come up with a little more quality play in the final third.</p>
<p>Coventry, 17th in the Championship and in severe financial trouble, won 4-1 at Blackburn with two goals by Michael Mifsud, who is quicky becoming a Cup specialist having scored against Manchester United to knock them out of the Carling Cup.  Elliott Ward and Dele Adebola also scored for Coventry while David Bentley scored Blackburn’s only goal.</p>
