2.9 million watch NBC’s USA-France women’s Olympic game

NBCSN scored an impressive viewing audience average of 2.9 million people on Saturday for the US women’s Olympic game between the United States and France.

The match, which was televised live on NBCSN from 4-6pm ET, outdrew the highest viewership in a Group Stage game for the US Men’s National Team in the 2016 Copa America on FOX Sports 1 (2,061,000 viewers for the game against Paraguay).

This follows on the heels of the 1.3 million who tuned in to watch the US Women’s National Team defeat New Zealand 2-0.

With the USA’s 1-0 victory against France, the USA’s next game is Tuesday against Colombia (6pm ET kickoff on NBCSN, NBC Universo and Sling Blue).

We also love a big event and/or a spectacle, which the Olympics is.

But Americans undoubtedly, above all else, love winners — hence why the USWNT ratings sometimes (often?) outstrip those of their male counterparts.

The WNT ratings do not oustrip their male counterparts. In 2016 the MNT is averaging 1,185,923 while the WNT is averaging 649,583. last year the WNT did draw 25 million for the WWC Final, but none of their other games cracked 10 million viewers while every MNT at their World Cup hit 10 million.

I figure that number comes down slightly for the game tomorrow. France game was on a Saturday afternoon, the day after everybody knew the Olpmics had started. Tomorrow is when a lot of people are just getting off work and it’s a Tuesday. I would imagine that it’s on par with the New Zealand game.
