Valencia have reached an agreement with coach Nuno Espirito Santo to extend his current deal with the Spanish club until June 2018.

Nuno replaced former Los Che boss Juan Antonio Pizzi last summer, and his current deal was set to expire at the conclusion of the 2014-15 campaign.

Valencia have enjoyed a solid start in La Liga, defeating defending Spanish champions Atletico Madrid and European/Club World Cup champions Real Madrid. The Mestalla club are currently fifth place in the Primera Division, one point off from Champions League qualification for next season, and have reached the Round of 16 in the Copa del Rey.

Last season, Los Che missed out on Europe for the first time since the 2004-05 campaign. The club have now set their sights on Champions League qualification and are currently benefitting from a season with no footballing concerns outside of domestic competitions.

A statement from the club reads: “Valencia have reached an agreement with coach of the first team Nuno Espirito Santo to extend his contract until June 30, 2018.”

Nuno commented on his extension during today’s pre-match press conference: “It was something that made sense for everyone. We’ve been talking about a project that lasts for many years.”

“I’ve never had any doubts about where I wanted to be and where my staff wanted to be. We are very proud to be here and are very motivated here.”

“I feel content and happy. I am grateful and honored to be manager of Valencia CF, and for me it is an obligation to continue improving this team.
