Marco Reus’ transfer to the Los Angeles Galaxy is more than simply another big name in European soccer, making the big move to the States. 



It has the potential to make a bold statement that changes the course of his career and the Major League Soccer landscape. 



The 35-year-old former captain of <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/borussia-dortmund-ready-to-let-gio-reyna-go-to-france/">Borussia Dortmund</a> has a laundry list of achievements, including a World Cup appearance and two Player of the Year awards from Germany.



The fact that Reus has chosen to <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/reasons-why-marco-reus-should-stay-at-borussia-dortmund-20141227-CMS-125383.html">leave the European scene</a> for the bright lights of Hollywood is a major move. 



This is no ordinary player in the latter stages of his career seeking a gentle landing; he has shone in Champions League finals and played a pivotal role in some of the most monumental contests. 



Unfortunately, he has missed a lot of time due to injuries, so it’s unclear whether he can manage the intense physical demands of <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/where-to-watch-mls-on-us-tv-and-internet/">Major League Soccer</a>.



Despite the fact that Reus is 35 years old and may have seen better days, his football IQ and ability level are unimpaired. 



A club that has been star-struck from the start, <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/el-trafico-attendance-strong-despite-failure-to-set-mls-record/">Los Angeles Galaxy</a> obviously see more than simply a big name in Reus.

The Galaxy’s current roster is already packed with talent. I don’t think we’ve scored on one of those in years.”

There’s no denying the physical toll that MLS can take on players, particularly those used to the more structured environment of European leagues. 



Many European stars have struggled to adapt to the demanding schedule, travel, and intensity of the MLS. The 35-year-old, with his history of injuries, faces an uphill battle. However, his commitment to this new chapter is clear. 



“I wanted to do something new with my family,” Reus said in German. “Before, when the opportunity came along, I decided not to do it, but this time I wanted to use this opportunity to experience something new with my family—a new culture, new language—and play for a club that has a vision.”



Reus is well aware of the skepticism surrounding his move, particularly from those back in Germany, where MLS is not as highly regarded. “To be honest, MLS is not a popular league in Germany,” he admitted. “Of course, when players arrived here like Messi, for example, then they pay more attention to that. I think this league is great. They have a lot of good players in this league, especially in LA. I see a lot of good games so far.”



His words suggest a player who is not only ready to adapt but also eager to prove himself in a new environment. “I have to play first and then I can say what I think of the league…I think the standard is good…it’s good so far,” Reus added.

MLS losing appeal? Star to return to Barcelona for shocking price

Former Real Madrid and Manchester United striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez has finished his four-year tenure with the LA Galaxy.



The Mexican star signed a three-year deal with the Galaxy in 2020 after missing most of the 2019 season with an ACL injury in his right knee. After the 2022 season, his team exercised a 2023 option on his contract.



The conclusion of the year marks the end of his contract. The <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/where-to-watch-mls-on-us-tv-and-internet/">MLS</a> club said Friday that they were releasing the forward because his contract had expired. Therefore, the Galaxy have made available a 2024 roster space.



“We are grateful to Javier for his dedication and contributions to the LA Galaxy,” LA Galaxy head coach and sporting director Greg Vanney&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lagalaxy.com/news/la-galaxy-part-ways-with-designated-player-javier-chicharito-hernandez" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">said in a statement</a>. “In four seasons with the Galaxy, Javier was a passionate leader for our club on and off the field. We wish him all the best moving forward.”

<h2>How did Javier Hernandez fare with the LA Galaxy?</h2>



After announcing earlier that winger <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/douglas-costa-unveils-next-dream-club-targets-staggering-return-20231028-WST-465643.html">Douglas Costa</a> will not be returning in 2024, LA now have two available Designated Player slots with the departure of the 35-year-old. Their star midfielder Riqui Puig is the only DP they have left following a disappointing 13th-place finish in the Western Conference and a subsequent absence from the MLS Cup Playoffs.



The 35-year-old had a rough 2023, scoring only once in 12 games in all competitions before suffering an injury in the summer. His last game for Galaxy was on June 7 against Real Salt Lake in the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. His right knee’s ACL was then torn and he had to have surgery.

The forward’s time with the Los Angeles Galaxy was fraught with highs and lows. However, he will always regret leaving without an MLS Cup.



From 2020 to 2023, he started 71 of 82 games for the Galaxy. He finished with 39 goals and six assists. With 38 goals in 74 games played for the club, he is sixth all-time.



The Former Mexico international played in Europe for 11 years before joining the MLS. He spent time with Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, West Ham, and Sevilla. At Old Trafford, he won two <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/watch-premier-league-on-us-tv-internet/">Premier League</a> championships, and with Sevilla in 2020, he won the <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/europa-league-tv-schedule/">UEFA Europa League</a>.



Before retiring from international play in 2019, Hernandez earned 109 caps for Mexico’s national team. He became the country’s all-time top scorer with 52 goals.



<h2>What next for Chicharito?</h2>



Chicharito did not specify where he would be going next. In the next January transfer window, he will be available to sign with any team he wants.

Back in June, <a title="article" href="http://www.majorleaguesoccertalk.com/mls-rumor-mill-galaxy-interested-in-ronaldinho/9589" target="_blank">I wrote an article</a> for MLS Talk about the possibility of Ronaldinho taking his talents to Los Angeles to play for the Galaxy.
Apparently, the rumor is alive and well.
The latest incarnation is the speculation that the Galaxy <a title="article" href="http://www.imscouting.com/global-news-article/LA-Galaxy-to-offer-AC-Milan-striker-Ronaldinho-7-million-a-year-/11968/" target="_blank">are prepared to offer €7 million a year</a> to get the Brazilian to play his home games at the Home Depot Center.
That’s about $10 million, if you’re wondering.
Ronaldinho is in the final year of his contract, so there wouldn’t be the issue of a transfer fee.
Of course, if you type his name in Google and hit news, you see several stories saying <a title="article" href="http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/40104176/ns/sports-soccer/" target="_blank">he’s talking with the Galaxy</a>, and a few more that say he’s staying put – <a title="article" href="http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/ronaldinho-and-inzaghi-set-to-stay-2130195.html" target="_blank">at least until season’s end.</a>
The questions, I suppose, are these:
Does he want to play in MLS, and is it a good idea?
He has no goals and three assists in seven Serie A matches this season, so unless his form starts to rise, he’s probably going to be looking for a new club this summer.
So, would he want to try to play in Spain? Germany? Brazil? Or, would he take the pay day and play with the Galaxy?
It’s hard to say.
As for the second question, it’s hard to imagine the move as anything but positive.
He won’t be billed as the savior of American soccer (see Beckham, David), so assuming he has anything at all left in the tank (he probably does) and assuming he doesn’t eat his way off the pitch, he can be a draw for the Galaxy in particular and the league in general.
So, is this just another rumor? Or is it more likely now than it was a few months back? And would it be a good fit?

You’d have to believe that the Galaxy, facing the prospect of Beckham missing most, if not all, of the season with a ruptured Achilles, would be thrilled to bring in the former FIFA World Player of the Year.
The Brazilian is under contract with the Italian club until 2011 and, despite the fact that Dunga left him off Brazil’s World Cup squad, he was in fine form last season with Milan. He led Serie A with 12 assists in league play, and had 15 goals and 16 assists in all competitions.
AC Milan is a club very much in transition, however. Leonardo’s tenure as manager was a short one, and who knows how well – or if – Ronaldinho fits into the plans of the new regime.
It’s too early to tell if this is just a rumor, or a distinct possibility. But it would certainly be interesting.
