<p>An unprecedented 65,612 spectators flocked to Gillette Stadium on Saturday night. The previous record was set on October 20, 2002, when 61,316 fans filled the same stadium. They went there to witness the New England Patriots play the Los Angeles Galaxy.</p>



<p>The greatest of all time delivered as promised. The 36-year-old put on a spectacular display, scoring twice and setting up another as <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/inter-miami-spell-propels-higuain-to-try-hand-at-new-sport/">Miami</a> cruised to a 4-1 win. In fact, the Herons captain was instrumental in all three of his side’s goals. </p>

<p>At Gillette Stadium, Tata Martino fielded a starting eleven that included two substitutes from last weekend’s victory against Nashville. <p>In the middle of the field, Julian Gressel, Sergio Busquets, and David Ruiz lined up, while captain <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/ex-barca-star-cast-doubt-on-messis-leadership-and-drive-at-club/">Lionel Messi</a> and Robert Taylor flanked striker Leonardo Campana. Hosts Tomás Chancalay put the game on the board in the first minute of play, giving his team a commanding lead.</p>



<p>A goal from Inter Miami in the 32nd minute gave the visitors hope after the hosts took an early lead. After gaining control beyond the penalty area, Taylor set up Messi with a through pass; the Argentine genius got the ball on the right side of the penalty area and calmly finished off a left-footed shot that beat the keeper.</p>



<p>Leo scored his eighth goal of the regular season and his tenth goal of the season in all competitions with this goal. Meanwhile, Taylor picked up his second assist of the season with this assist. In the first seven games of his season, the Argentine contributed to 14 goals, making him the leader in this season’s MLS scoreboard.</p>



<p>This makes him the first player in league history to accomplish the milestone, surpassing Carlos Vela (13 goals) and Thierry Henry (11 goals). On top of that, he became only the sixth player in MLS history to have a goal assist in each of his first seven games that season.</p>



<h2>How did Inter Miami fare in second half?</h2>



<p>The former Barcelona captain kept up his brilliant play in the second half, assisting Inter Miami in turning the game around. He found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper in the 68th minute after Busquets threaded a pass into the area; he scored the first goal for the visitors with a left-footed effort to the far post, putting them up 2-1.</p>



<p>Messi now has nine goals for the season and eleven for the year in all competitions, while Busquets now has three assists for the season and four for the year in all competitions. Cremaschi then put his club up 3-1 in the 83rd minute after scoring off a rebound.</p>



<p>With this, the 19-year-old scored in only his third appearance of the season. To cap off the goal-scoring extravaganza, Luis Suarez would score five minutes later.</p>

<p>Frank Lampard’s <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/lampard-returns-to-chelsea-as-caretaker-manager-20230406-WST-426952.html">second stint</a> as the manager of Chelsea is on track for a horrid losing record in Premier League play. After four losses on the bounce in league play and a pair of losses in the Champions League, the Blues are <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/todd-boehly-gives-team-talk-to-chelsea-after-brighton-defeat-20230417-WST-428727.html">limping into the summer</a> just waiting for the last whistle of the campaign.</p>



<p>Lampard will not return as manager next season. Occasionally, interim managers do enough to earn a permanent role at the club. That is not the case for the Englishman, whose streak of torrid performances goes back to <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/everton-sack-frank-lampard-with-toffees-in-relegation-zone-20230123-WST-416510.html">his days with Everton</a>. After taking over in the midst of the 2021/22 campaign, Lampard lost 21 out of 38 games at Everton in Premier League play. Tack on the four losses in four league games with Chelsea this season, and his loss rate is 60%. For comparison, he is winning just nine out of 42. That is a win rate of 21%.</p>



<p>Even that is not overly terrible in regards to managers that have the worst losing record in Premier League history. </p>



<h2>The worst Premier League losing record by manager</h2>



<h5>Jan Siewert – Huddersfield Town</h5>



<p>Jan Siewert took over the role from David Wagner in a dismal season at Huddersfield Town. At the time, Huddersfield had 15 losses in its first 21 games. Siewert oversaw the final 15 games of the season. Huddersfield, which was bound for a bottom-of-the-table finish, picked up a grand total of five points from those games. In the process, the club lost 12 times. </p>



<p>That gives Siewert a losing record of 80%. That is good for the worst losing rate in the history of the Premier League. For Huddersfield, it became only the second club to secure relegation before the end of March. Although, to be fair to Siewert, he could not find any rhythm in the Championship, either. There, the club lost two of its first three, with Siewert getting the sack after the second loss.</p>

<h5>Brian Laws – Burnley</h5>



<p>With Burnley sitting in 15th in the league table at the turn of the year in the 2009/10 campaign, the Clarets appointed Brian Laws to save the season. Laws did just about the opposite. The manager led Burnley to 14 losses in the remaining 18 games, leading to a losing record of 78%. Laws’s Burnley only finished in 18th, the last spot in the relegation zone. West Ham United was five points ahead of Burnley in the table. </p>



<p>Laws found a little more success in the following season in the Championship. However the hurt of relegation from his poor showing in the Premier League left Burnley avoiding any risk when things turned south. After three losses in five games in November and December of the following season, Burnley sacked Laws.</p>



<p>Frank Lampard’s recent stints at Chelsea and Everton could be the worst losing record in Premier League history, but how bad was it for others?</p>



<h5>Slaviša Jokanović – Fulham</h5>



<p>If there was ever an instance of a club’s season showing the divide between the Championship and the Premier League, it may be Fulham in the late 2010s. After finding promotion via the playoffs in the 2017/18 campaign, Slaviša Jokanović led Fulham back to the top flight for the first time since the 2013/14 campaign. However, once there, Fulham met the wrath of the top-flight teams.</p>



<p>Nine losses in Fulham’s first 12 games in that 2018/19 season led the club to sack Jokanović. That is a loss rate of 75% in his short stint in the Premier League. Yet, Fulham’s problems were not solely resting on Jokanović. After his departure, Fulham found relative form with nine points over its next eight games. After that, 12 losses in a 13-game span doomed the Craven Cottage club. The only thing that kept Fulham off the bottom of the table that season was Jan Siewert and Huddersfield Town.</p>

<p>Going back a little farther in the Premier League era, Roy McFarland led Bolton Wanderers to a 20th-place finish in the 1995/96 top-flight season. With Bolton making its third appearance in the top flight in four years, Bolton appointed McFarland after Bruce Rioch departed for Arsenal. It was a disappointing season, to say the least. </p>



<p>McFarland had Bolton lost 16 of its first 22 games. Bolton only had 10 points at the time, and it saw McFarland as the issue. Maybe that was the losing rate of over 72%. McFarland never had a managerial role in the Premier League after the issues with Bolton.</p>

<p>More importantly in the short term, the goal provided Spurs a massive three points against a London rival. It solidifies Tottenham’s spot in fifth place, three points behind <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/teams/manchester-united-tv-schedule/">Manchester United</a>. Conte’s side has a five-point lead on Brighton. The Seagulls have played two fewer games, though.</p>



<p>The lone goal of the game came in stoppage time of the first half, a new trend adopted by Tottenham. <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/news/mahrez-stars-as-city-manage-incredible-spurs-comeback-20230119-WST-416185.html">Spurs scored twice</a> at the end of the first half against Manchester City. Unlike that game at the Etihad, Spurs managed to hold on to its lead at Craven Cottage.</p>



<p>Harry Kane picked up the ball with his back to goal just outside the 18-yard box. Defended by American Tim Ream, Kane turned left and fired seemingly a blind shot perfectly past the left side of Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno. The record-tying goal was surely one of Kane’s best for Spurs.</p>

<p>Fulham, despite flying forward with Willian down one side and Bobby Reid down the other, could never quite find an equalizer. In true Antonio Conte fashion, Spurs hunkered down, preventing even sniffs at goal from Fulham.</p>



<p>Perhaps Fulham’s best chance came in the first half, before Spurs’ opener. Hugo Lloris denied Harrison Reid.  Sometimes, all it takes is one moment of major quality. Kane delivered that, and three points, for Spurs on Monday.</p>



<h2>Kane inspires Spurs to victory at Fulham</h2>



<p>Moments of brilliance are commonplace for Kane. The Englishman is level on goals with Jimmy Greaves in Tottenham history. However, he almost topped Greaves in the Tottenham goal charts in the second half. His header from point blank range met the paw of Bernd Leno, who kept Fulham in the game. That goal would also make him just the third player in <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/premier-league-tv-schedule/">Premier League</a> history to reach 200 league goals.</p>

<p>The next chance Kane will have to usurp Greaves is on Jan. 28 in the FA Cup. Spurs travels to Championship side Preston in the fourth round.</p>



<p>While Spurs fans celebrate three points and a record-tying goal, Kane may be delivering more good news to the North London faithful. According to <a href="https:\/\/theathletic.com/4114681/2023/01/23/kane-spurs-contract-fresneda/?source=emp_shared_article" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">David Ornstein of <em>The Athletic</em></a>, Kane is willing to extend his contract at Tottenham, which expires at the end of next season, if the ‘circumstances are right.’</p>
