Wednesday’s match between Manchester United and Everton will be streamed live for free on Facebook to soccer fans around the world, the Manchester club announced today.

“I’ve got some exciting news to share,” said Rooney on his official Facebook page. “Tomorrow’s testimonial match between Manchester United and Everton Football Club will be streamed live on Facebook (from 7:15pm BST) – on both my page and the Manchester United page. I’m delighted to give my fans around the world a chance to watch the game as we try to raise as much money as possible for the Wayne Rooney Foundation!”

The friendly between Manchester United and Everton is Rooney’s testimonial game. It’s also Manchester United’s first home game of the summer, and the first opportunity for home supporters to cheer on new manager Jose Mourinho.

Wednesday’s game will kick off at 3pm ET. Pre-match coverage begins at 2:15pm ET. You can catch the free Facebook stream of the game live via either of the two official Facebook pages: Manchester United or Wayne Rooney.

All proceeds from the match will be distributed through The Wayne Rooney Foundation to four chosen charity partners: NSPCC, Claire House children’s hospice, Alder Hey children’s hospital and the Manchester United Foundation.

In unrelated Facebook news, CONCACAF has decided to broadcast this week’s CONCACAF Champions League games on Facebook for free given that the federation has been unable to secure an English-language TV rights deal in time for the competition.
