On August 15th 2009, Everton faced Arsenal on a sun drenched, season opener and lost 6-1. Joleon Lescott pulled on a royal blue shirt that afternoon despite reinforcing his desire to leave Goodison Park and angering manager David Moyes. The team were without influential performers such as Phil Jagielka and Mikel Arteta and looked to […]

Watching the Manchester City against Liverpool game on Sunday, it felt like I was watching a tedious chess game. There was little fluidity to the game and mistakes were plentiful. Just as one team made a move, the opposition would make a counter-move. And moments of style and panache were few and far between. But […]

Landon Donovan is a marquee player. I wouldn't say he is world class, but he is certainly a good player in the top league in the world. World Class, to me, means someone who instantly affects the game he is in. A game changer, a Rooney or a Crynaldo. Landon Donovan is neither of those. […]

To me, the first half had three major themes. First, Nani wasting cross after cross, either sending them directly at Dida, or shockingly wide. Second, Beckham was largely absent from the first half, never doing anything dangerous. Third, if Beckham was “largely” absent, was Pirlo “utterly” absent? “Completely” absent? “Altogether” absent? “Fully” absent? I am not sure he had a touch in the first half.
