<p class="has-drop-cap">After over two decades of playing professional soccer, Stefano Sorrentino finally scored his first ever goal.&nbsp;&nbsp;The former Torino, AEK Athens, Chievo, and Palermo goalkeeper initially announced his retirement from the sport just a few weeks ago. However, he was soon signed by eighth-tier FC Cervo, a team that just so happens to be managed by Sorrentino’s father.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>While Sorrentino has played his entire professional career as a keeper, the now 40-year-old player made his debut for Cervo as a center forward.&nbsp;&nbsp;The keeper-turned-striker netted the goal on Sunday with a header coming straight off of a throw-in deep into opposing territory.&nbsp;&nbsp;The goal gave Cervo a 2-1 victory and moved the Italian club up to third in the Seconda Categoria Imperia – Girone A table.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>With nearly 600 total senior matches under his belt, all previously as a goalkeeper, it’s certainly impressive that Sorrentino scored in his first match playing up front.&nbsp;&nbsp;The former shot-stopper last played with Serie A side Chievo during the 2018/19 campaign.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The Yellow and Blues managed just 25 goals in league play on the season and were subsequently relegated back to Serie B.&nbsp;&nbsp;Perhaps they could have used Sorrentino up front as a striker.</p>
