<p>Chelsea hosted <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/liverpool-tv-schedule/">Liverpool</a> Tuesday night in a matchup of two mid-table <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/premier-league-tv-schedule/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Premier League</a> teams. The match would be the first fixture <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/chelsea-sack-graham-potter-after-poor-run-of-form-20230402-WST-426393.html">without Graham Potter</a> as head coach for the Blues. Interim boss Bruno Saltor has taken over at the club until a permanent manager can be named. Unfortunately for the neutral fan, there wouldn’t be any goals in the game.</p>



<p>The two clubs entered the night in surprising positions in the <a href="https://www.premierleague.com/tables" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Premier League table</a>. Liverpool, after finishing in the top three in each of the last four seasons, sat eighth. <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/chelsea-tv-schedule/">Chelsea</a>, on the other hand, are having an even worse campaign in west London. The Blues were 11th at the start of the night and have fired two different managers since September.</p>



<p>Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp made some interesting changes to his starting XI for the matchup. The German opted to put Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson all on the bench. Star center back Virgil van Dijk also missed out on the action due to an illness. The hosts looked to take advantage of the key absences early on.</p>



<h5>Multiple scoring chances early</h5>



<p>Joao Felix, Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz all had good chances to put their team ahead inside the opening dozen minutes. Felix first had a shot blocked by Joel Matip inside the area. Ibrahima Konate then made a goal-saving clearance just a minute later from a Kovacic shot. Havertz saw his shot well blocked by Alisson from point-blank range at the 12-minute mark. </p>



<p>Reece James had the <a href="https://twitter.com/NBCSportsSoccer/status/1643335030121324546" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ball in the back of the net</a> halfway through the first period, but an offside flag was raised a few seconds prior. Liverpool’s best chance in the first half came from a Fabinho shot just seconds from the halftime whistle. However, Wesley Fofana headed the ball away to safety just as it was approaching Chelsea’s goal.</p>



<h2>VAR review preserves draw between Chelsea and Liverpool</h2>



<p>The hosts once again had the ball in the back of the net in the 50th minute. However, just like the previous incident, the goal would ultimately not stand. Alisson first saved a shot by Havertz, then the ball came back off of the German’s elbow and rolled into the net. The goal was initially given, but VAR made quick work of the review to rule it out.</p>

<p>Despite the series of scoring chances, the match ultimately finished level at zero. The result doesn’t really benefit either team either. Both clubs remain in the same position as they were prior to the start of the match. Chelsea will look to get Saltor’s first win as a head coach at Wolves on Sunday. Liverpool’s fixture list doesn’t get any easier, as they next play league-leading <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/arsenal-tv-schedule/">Arsenal</a> at the weekend.</p>

<p>The 2022/23 LaLiga predictions may be more open than people presume. On one hand, it is hard to pick against Real Madrid, Barcelona or Atletico to win the LaLiga title. However, the jumble of teams beneath these three provides some drama. This stretches from the battle for European placement to the always-looming danger of relegation.</p>
<p>So, as you think about how LaLiga unfolds this season, consider a number of factors that impact teams. For one, transfers play a massive role. New arrivals to squads can be the missing piece for success on the biggest level. At the same time, they could throw off the balance of what brought success. That applies to both arrivals and departures on the team sheet.</p>
<p>Same applies for managers. Barcelona manager Xavi had significant time at the helm at Camp Nou. Now, he has his first full season with the Catalan club. Surely, he wants to improve on Barcelona’s second-place finish from a season ago. Of course, the one team they can improve against is a side that won LaLiga and the UEFA Champions League this past season. Therefore, Los Blancos enter as the sure-fire favorites domestically.</p>
<p>Relegation in Spain is not something that receives as much publicity in the United States. Unlike Germany or England, there is no regular attachment to many of the bottom-dwellers in LaLiga. That being said, a relegation battle is still a relegation battle. Almería, Real Valladolid and Girona look to stay for more than one season in Spain, but it will not be easy.</p>

<p>Even though Peterborough are currently <a href="http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11764_5685514,00.html">remaining silent</a> on reports while I write this, the man who lead the Posh from the bottom division of the football league to the Championship has apparently been relieved of his duties. Chairman Darragh MacAnthony appears to have taken the decision after Peterborough’s poor start to the season; the Posh currently sit bottom of the table with only two wins to their name. But any football fan must ask, where is the justice in this for Ferguson? I personally find it a shame that McAnthony has taken this decision and i’m sure many fans of the club will feel the same.</p>
<p>Peterborough has been quite a colourful club in recent years. Whether it be inviting disgraced TV pundit Ron Atkinson and a bunch of sky TV cameras into their club to “sort things out” or engaging in a legal dispute with Victoria Beckham over the naming rights of the clubs nickname ‘the Posh’, many English fans will be well acquainted with the name. Sky Sports favourite and director of football Barry Fry will also be familiar face to football fans, being one of those larger than life characters within the game.</p>
<p>This latest bit of news from Eastern English side though confuses me some what. How can any chairman justify sacking a manager who has won back-to-back promotions for your team and also shown great commitment throughout, notably rejecting the chance to manage Reading this summer – instead preferring to sign a new four year contract with Peterborough. The club is bottom of the table and on poor form, but you should expect that if you’re going up into a new league; Ferguson hasn’t even been given the opportunity to turn things around in any manner.</p>
<p>As mentioned above, Barry Fry is a recognisable figure from the club. A former manager and chairman who has always had the clubs best interests at heart. A meeting on Monday 9th November was scheduled after the club suffered another defeat to top of the table Newcastle United; a team they were hardly expected to beat. I wonder what Fry himself makes of this decision and how much of a say he had in it; he’s a man who’s whole life has revolved around football and surely he would realise Peterborough have a brilliant thing in Ferguson.</p>
<p>Maybe I could be wrong here but that scheduled meeting for Monday maybe have started out as a review of the clubs form and possibly gone a bit far and ended up with the worst possible scenario. Even then, to let Ferguson go suggests that the board’s ambitions for the club are currently set too high. They have shown little faith in one of the brightest young British managers and once again we see another reason why clubs look to hire foreign coaches; the Brit’s just aren’t given a chance to develop.</p>
<p>There are still 30 games left to play this season! 30! With all due respect, the Posh are not one of the big hitters in this league – nor are they expected to be. Any team that gets promoted to a higher league needs to prepare for the battles of relegation and build from there. Although some considerable investment has been made into the club, they have a lot of players that still need to adapt to the Championship. I can’t imagine any of the players are too happy about the decision, it’s clear that if he won two promotions then he obviously had a good rapport with his players.</p>
<p>It’ll be interesting to see who is brought in to replace Ferguson, I can’t think of many managers that could turn things around for the club. Ferguson is young so he is still developing, but at the same time has shown magnificent maturity in what he has accomplished. Any club that decides to snap him up will have a gem of a manager – I have already seen that Brighton fans are hopefull of the Scot filling their vacant managerial post after Russell Slade was given the axe. All I can see for Ferguson is success in the future and I hope he is back in management sooner rather than later.</p>
<p>It’s also quite ironic that Ferguson’s last game in charge came against another club whose chairman makes a few questionable decisions – Newcastle United. Anybody fancy getting the rumour mill going regarding a bit of Mike Ashley advice to MacAnothony?</p>
