<h2>How has Gattuso’s career helped him in coaching?</h2>



<p>The renowned former Italian midfielder and World Cup winner started his professional journey at Perugia, where he made his senior debut. His early career saw him moving to the Scottish club Rangers, before returning to Italy to play for Salernitana. In 1999, Gattuso joined AC Milan, where he would spend the next 13 years and establish himself as a soccer legend.</p>



<p>At Milan, Gattuso played 468 games and was instrumental in the club’s numerous victories. He won the UEFA Champions League twice (in 2003 and 2007), two Serie A titles, the UEFA Super Cup, the Italian Super Cup, and the Club World Cup. His tenacity, combativeness, and unyielding winning mentality made him an iconic figure in the world of soccer. His crowning achievement was winning the FIFA World Cup with Italy in 2006.</p>



<p>Gattuso ended his playing career with the Swiss club Sion in 2013, where he immediately transitioned into coaching, taking over the management of the first team. His coaching career began at Sion and included brief stints at Palermo and OFI Crete. His significant breakthrough came when he led Pisa to promotion to Serie B.</p>



<p>Gattuso then took charge of his beloved AC Milan, where he managed current Hajduk sports director Nikola Kalinic. His coaching career progressed with positions at Napoli, where he won the Coppa Italia in 2020, Fiorentina, Valencia, and most recently, Olympique Marseille. His tenure at Marseille ended in February after a brief stint.</p>

<p>After Marcelino’s resignation last week, French powerhouse Marseille is reportedly set to hire Gennaro Gattuso as their next head coach on Wednesday.</p>



<p>Following tensions between the supporters and the administration, Marseille removed Marcelino as head coach after just seven games in charge. The club’s fans were unhappy with the Spanish coach’s style of play, and the manager said he was threatened and insulted to the point that he decided to resign.</p>



<p>While looking for a permanent replacement, the <em>Olympiens</em> president Pablo Longoria hired Jacques Abardonado to serve in an interim capacity. Gattuso was up against ex-PSG boss Christophe Galtier, as well as Julen Lopetegui, but beat them out for the position.</p>



<h2>Marseille to appoint Gennaro Gattuso as Marcelino’s replacement</h2>



<p>LaLiga side Valencia let Gattuso go at the end of January. He has not picked up a job since then. Now, the 45-year-old is making his comeback to <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zb-ZAkpRJdw" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">management</a> after eight months.</p>

The club faced significant opposition to that move, and Lyon ultimately went with his compatriot, Fabio Grosso.</p>

<p>This means that the former midfielder will be available for Saturday’s Ligue 1 matchup between Marseille and Monaco. His new side will want to end a winless skid of four games.</p>

<p>Following his retirement as a player in 2013, Gattuso made his management debut with Palermo. He subsequently managed Crete, Pisa, and his previous club <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/ac-milan-tv-schedule">AC Milan</a>, until leaving at the conclusion of the 2018-19 season.</p>



<p>After taking over as manager of <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/napoli-tv-schedule-for-viewers-in-united-states">Napoli</a> in the winter of 2019, the Italian led the team to a Coppa Italia title.
