<p><a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/liverpool-tv-schedule/">Liverpool</a> and <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/the-history-of-manchester-united-vs-manchester-city-gary-james-interview-video-20130406-CMS-52551.html">Manchester City</a> have attempted to calm tension between the two teams ahead of a matchup next week. The clubs have a recent history of hostile incidents involving fans during games.</p>



<p>City boss Pep Guardiola previously made claims that Liverpool fans threw coins at him during their October match. The Reds recently <a href="https://theathletic.com/3956566/2022/12/01/liverpool-guardiola-man-city-coin/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">closed their investigation</a> into the allegations without charging any fans. City also said that their team bus was attacked as they departed Anfield following the game. This was the second time that the reigning <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/premier-league-tv-schedule/">Premier League</a> champions made the claim. They also made similar suggestions during a 2018 <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/champions-league-tv-schedule/">Champions League</a> matches up as well.</p>



<h2>Liverpool and Manchester City meeting calms toxic tension</h2>



<p><em><a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/12/16/liverpool-manchester-city-hold-peace-talks-end-toxic-atmosphere/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Telegraph</a></em> is reporting that senior officials from both sides recently met with fan groups to discuss the issue. Fans of each side were present. City Matters, the team’s elected fan community, represented the Sky Blues. Then, the Liverpool Supporters’ Board made an appearance.</p>



<p>The report suggests that while both sides acknowledged that the main culprits came from a small minority of people, they also agreed to revamp the atmosphere inside the stadiums. The meeting reached out to season ticket holders about the situation. They also organized certain activities before the match for more control.</p>



<h5>Fan representatives issue joint statement</h5>



<p>A joint statement between the two fan groups emerged, as well. “Over the past five or six seasons, our matches have been some of the most entertaining in the world,” <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/12/16/liverpool-manchester-city-hold-peace-talks-end-toxic-atmosphere/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">read</a> the statement.</p>



<p>“However, we can’t ignore the recent poor behavior from a small number of fans on both sides, which has often overshadowed the results and the quality of football on show.“</p>



<p>“That’s why we were pleased to sit down with both clubs to improve relations and make commitments to working together to improve fan behavior at future matches.”</p>



<p>The latest installment of the rivalry will take place in Manchester on Thursday, December 22nd. While not a Premier League or Champions League match, the game will determine who advances to the <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/league-cup-tv-schedule/">Carabao Cup</a> quarterfinals.</p>

The Reds narrowly edged Derby County earlier this week to advance to the fourth round. Backup goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher made three saves during the penalty shootout to help his club move on to the next round.</p>



<p>City, on the other hand, beat fellow <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/premier-league-tv-schedule/">Premier League</a> powerhouse <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/chelsea-tv-schedule/">Chelsea </a>2-0 at the Etihad Stadium in the previous round of the competition. Goals from Riyad Mahrez and Julian Alvarez guided the Citizens past the struggling Blues. </p>



<h5>Big Premier League clubs are dropping from the competition</h5>



<p>The matchup means that there will be a maximum of just two Premier League ‘Big Six’ teams in the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup. <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/arsenal-tv-schedule/">Arsenal</a>, Chelsea, and <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/tottenham-tv-schedule/">Tottenham Hotspur</a> were all knocked out of the tournament this week.</p>



<p><a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/manchester-united-tv-schedule/">Manchester United</a> were also in the fourth round draw as well. The Red Devils will host Championship side Burnley. United previously advanced after winning a thrilling 4-2 match at Old Trafford against Aston Villa. In 2021/22, Burnley suffered relegation from the Premier League. However, under <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/2022/08/03/vincent-kompany-brings-a-fresh-change-to-the-tactics-at-burnley/">new boss Vincent Kompany</a>, Burnley is flying. In fact, the club sits <a href="https://www.skysports.com/championship-table" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">atop the Championship table</a> with 38 points after 20 games.</p>

<h5>Carabao Cup schedule could be an issue</h5>



<p>The schedule for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup is just days after the <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/category/world-cup-2022/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">World Cup</a> ends. Premier League matches return on Boxing Day. Therefore, these cup games most likely happen on or around Dec. 21. The 2022 World Cup Final in Qatar will take place on Dec. 18.</p>



<p>New Wolves boss Julien Lopetegui will finally get to coach the club for the first time during this competition. The West Midlands team drew League Two side Gillingham. The Gills are currently the lowest-ranked team still competing in the Carabao Cup.</p>

<p>Three of the <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/premier-league-tv-schedule/">Premier League’s</a> biggest clubs in London dropped out of the <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/league-cup-tv-schedule/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Carabao Cup</a>. <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/arsenal-tv-schedule/">Arsenal</a>, <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/chelsea-tv-schedule/">Chelsea</a>, and <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/tottenham-tv-schedule/">Tottenham Hotspur</a> all suffered defeat in the third round of the competition on Wednesday. The tournament is essentially the second-tiered knockout cup competition in England and Wales. </p>



<p>The Gunners entered their match with Brighton on Wednesday making 10 changes to their team that beat Chelsea at the weekend. Arsenal went up early against visiting Brighton at the Emirates Stadium. Reiss Nelson made a fantastic run and fed Eddie Nketiah going forward. The striker put his curling shot past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0 after just 20 minutes. However, this would be Arsenal’s last goal of the game.</p>



<p>Danny Welbeck converted a penalty past Karl Hein just seven minutes after the opening goal. Kaoru Mitoma and Tariq Lamptey added two more second half strikes for the visitors to put the game out of reach. The victory was the team’s third-consecutive win in all competitions.</p>



<h2>North London clubs fall in Carabao Cup</h2>



<p>Spurs traveled to Nottingham Forest in another matchup of Premier League teams. The visitors were second best for most of the match. While the game was 0-0 at the halftime break, defender Renan Lodi put Forest ahead early in the second half. </p>

<p>The hosts doubled their lead just seven minutes later after Jesse Lingard headed past Fraser Forster. It was Lingard’s first goal of the current campaign. Although Forest went down to ten men in the 76th minute, Spurs couldn’t find a way to create real opportunities going forward. The match ended with a 2-0 victory for the hosts.</p>



<h5>chelsea stumble yet again</h5>



<p>Chelsea undoubtedly had the toughest matchup of the trio. The west London club had to travel to face reigning Premier League champions <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/the-history-of-manchester-united-vs-manchester-city-gary-james-interview-video-20130406-CMS-52551.html">Manchester City</a>. City started on a front foot, but could not find the back of the net in the first half. Nevertheless, the talented team finally scored as Riyad Mahrez converted in the 53rd minute.</p>



<p>The champions doubled their lead just five minutes later thanks to a Julian Alvarez strike. Chelsea could not score despite putting 15 shots towards the City goal. The Blues have now lost three of their last four matches in all competitions.</p>



<p><a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/liverpool-tv-schedule/">Liverpool</a> nearly joined the other big clubs from departing the Carabao Cup early. The Reds managed to squeak by Derby County on penalty kicks. Caoimhín Kelleher saved three of Derby’s penalties, with the final block coming against Everton loanee Lewis Dobbin.</p>
