When Will Jozy Altidore Begin Scoring for Sunderland in the EPL?

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet spoke to the Sunderland Echo newspaper this week about his big American striker Jozy Altidore: “He has many good qualities but the one that tends to get overlooked is that he has an unbelievable shot on him – so powerful. “I still can’t believe he is only 24, he hits the […]

Can Orlando City Be a Success In MLS?

MLS has returned to the state of Florida with last night’s announcement that Orlando City SC will move from USL PRO to MLS in 2015. While Orlando should be a top drawer market for the league, some question will persist. 1. What makes Orlando, with less professional soccer history, a safer bet than nearby Tampa […]

Mexico's Next Biggest Challenge: How to Integrate the European-Based Players Back Into the Team

Mexico’s decisive victory over New Zealand over two legs proves that despite the woeful year and constant mismanagement of the side, El Tri still has the quality to do damage in Brazil. The decision to field a completely domestic based side with many relatively inexperienced internationals reaped dividends as far as squad chemistry and harmony […]

QPR and Malaga Are UEFA's Whipping Boys in Financial Fair Play: Monday Soccer Insider

The report in the Mail on Sunday newspaper that QPR could run afoul of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play standards and face a fine in the £60 million range is no surprise. Harry Redknapp has a history of pushing clubs beyond their economic means and, in QPR's case, he took an already bad situation and made it […]

David Beckham Needs to Embrace Hispanic Population in Miami For MLS Team to Be a Success

David Beckham’s much anticipated Miami MLS team cannot hope to be all things to all people. In a fickle sports market whose propensity for failing soccer franchises and under-appreciated sporting events of every stripe, the only way to go might be a hyper-local approach and Latino-centric approach. David Beckham is a global superstar and no […]

Why Rodney Marsh's Assertion That Yaya Toure Is Not Happy At Manchester City Has Validity

I flew through London Heathrow Airport the other day wearing a retro Manchester City shirt. When asked about it in Terminal 5, I simply stated it was a Rodney Marsh kit (which it is not — it is a generic kit from the 1971-72 season when Marsh joined the club and the team collapsed falling […]

Why Bob Bradley Should Be Considered For Fulham Job Despite Meulensteen Appointment

Fulham have been down the road of fighting relegation before during their current 12 year run of Premier League football. However, it seems every time the Cottagers were threatened with relegation, something either miraculous happened, or the grit and commitment of the squad came through. The current group of players at Craven Cottage however seem […]

On Saturday night, the New York Cosmos won the NASL Soccer Bowl for a sixth time. According to my league and team sources, CONCACAF is trying to find a way to get the Cosmos, a second division team, into the continental CONCACAF Champions League. While I have not been able to confirm this with CONCACAF, I could […]

Why Promotion is the Only Option for QPR This Season

Queens Park Rangers have one of the largest and deepest squads in Europe. Yet they are not in a European competition of any kind and have one goal: to secure a quick return to the Premier League. Otherwise, they could potentially face financial armageddon. Chairman Tony Fernandes has been more than generous in backing three […]

Why Wenger’s Arsenal Are The Unquestionable Premier League Title Favorites

Following Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea in the League Cup on Tuesday, we read analysis far and wide about how the Gunners title credentials had been unmasked by the result. These theories gained traction among many analysts during the course of this week, but they were laughable. Bashing Arsene Wenger has long proven to be […]

Either way, Orlando City will have been announced as moving from USL PRO to MLS by that time creating an […]

How Orlando City's Move to MLS Will Impact the Other Soccer Teams in Florida

For many years Florida was a barren wasteland for professional soccer. From 2002 to 2005, the state did not boast one professional franchise and a limited number of amateur PDL teams. Suddenly after only boasting a single professional team as late as 2009 (Miami FC) and three semi-pro/4th division clubs, the state now has five professional […]
