<p>Tyler Adams, who has been the <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/tyler-adams-takes-stoic-approach-before-us-iran-game-20221128-WST-410354.html">best player for the United States</a> at the World Cup, is leaving all doors open at the tournament. After helping the Stars and Stripes <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/iran-vs-usa-us-wins-1-0-as-fortune-favors-the-brave-pulisic-20221129-WST-410538.html">advance to the round of 16</a>, the Leeds United midfielder talked to ABC’s Good Morning America about the result.</p>



<p>Adams collapsed onto his knees upon hearing the full time whistle in the <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/worlds-media-react-to-usas-world-cup-win-against-iran-20221130-WST-410565.html">win over Iran</a>. He played every minute of the group stage games against Wales, England and Iran. His tenacity in the midfield both offensively and defensively is one of the key reasons the USMNT advanced to play the Netherlands on Saturday.</p>



<p>Therefore, his self-proclaimed relief at the end of the Iran game is no surprise. Adams says getting out of the group was the first step. Now, the team can make a proper run for American glory.</p>



<p>“For us, it was our goal to get out of the group,” Adams told Good Morning America on Wednesday. “Now, anything can happen. We have that American mentality that, in a playoff setting, we might be the underdogs, but anything can happen.”</p>

<p>Certainly, the United States is an underdog against the Netherlands. However, Adams later added that the young mentality of this squad is actually a benefit, despite the likeliness of advancing dwindling.</p>



<p>“We’re a fearless group,” Adams said. “Brave, relentless, diverse. We have all the qualities of a team that can go out and win this [World Cup]. We have confidence in out group, and now it is about going out and executing.”</p>



<h2>Tyler Adams embraces challenge of the World Cup</h2>



<p>Executing will be a tough task against a top Dutch side. Virgil van Dijk, Frenkie de Jong and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/shorts/3ZUiDL1fWWg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cody Gakpo</a> are having sensational tournaments. However, the United States has experience playing well against strong sides.</p>



<p>A case exists to argue that United States outplayed England in their scoreless draw on Black Friday. England is more talented than the upcoming Dutch contingent.</p>



<p>Regardless, the Netherlands is a difficult opponent for the United States. Tyler Adams will not care, as he sees huge potential for this American team.</p>

Tyler Adams believes anything can happen for US in World Cup

Tyler Adams is putting on a heroic performance for the USMNT at this World Cup. Through a tough group, the possibilities are endless.

<p>With a match against Iran on Tuesday, Tyler Adams faced the media before what is a geopolitically charged match in the group stage against Iran. Joined by manager Gregg Berhalter, the two representatives of the USMNT faced harsh questioning from rightfully displeased Iranian journalists.</p>



<p>The harangue largely comes as a result of the USMNT media accounts <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/us-soccer-removes-images-that-supported-iran-protests-20221127-WST-410200.html">excluding the sigil from the Iranian flag</a>. The emblem, a sign of the Islamic republic, did not appear in the USMNT’s preview of its fixture with Iran. US Soccer later said this was an intentional move. It was a way to support the Mahsa Amini protests currently happening in Tehran. US Soccer later deleted those posts, and it restored the Iranian flag to its official image.</p>



<p>On Monday, USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter and captain Tyler Adams faced the brunt of the criticism from Iranian journalists. Throughout the press conference, Berhalter and Adams both said that the players and coaching staff knew nothing about US Soccer’s posting of the incomplete Iranian flag. </p>

<p>Regardless, Tyler Adams, the team captain, answered all questions with poise, respect and honesty. For example, Adams faced a question over his acceptance of representing a country with “so much discrimination against black people in its borders.” Adams, rather than brushing the question aside, took on his leadership role with class.</p>



<p>“There is discrimination everywhere you go. One thing that I have learned, especially from living abroad in the last couple years, and having to fit into different cultures, is that in the US, we are continuing to make progress every single day. Growing up, I grew up in a white family with African American heritage. Through education, I think it is super important.</p>

<h5>Berhalter also faces Iranian questions</h5>



<p>Berhalter, the main focal point of the entire US operation at the World Cup, took even more questions than Adams. The one that stood out among the rest was a question about why Berhalter has not asked the US government to remove a naval ship in the Persian Gulf near Iran. </p>



<p>Berhalter, like Adams, repeatedly stated they are focused on soccer. In fact, Berhalter repeated a number of times that he is just a soccer coach.</p>

<p>The United States faces Iran in a win-or-go-home contest on Tuesday beginning at 2PM ET. If the United States loses or draws, it returns home. Iran advances with a win or potentially with a draw. </p>
