While he’s laser-focused on the present, the 26-year-old hasn’t ruled out a return to the U.S. later in his career. “I hopefully have some great years in Europe ahead of me,”&nbsp;he told&nbsp;The Athletic&nbsp;last year.&nbsp;“I’m loving my time here, so of course, MLS is not in my head at the moment. While the early signs were worrying, particularly for Milan’s winter signing from Feyenoord, the club has since received updates that provide both relief and lingering concern.



The incident unfolded late in the second half. Tammy Abraham, who had started the game, was replaced ten minutes after the break due to what initially appeared to be a troubling knock to the knee. But the real alarm sounded minutes later, when&nbsp;Santiago Gimenez collided with goalkeeper <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/tag/David-De-Gea/">David De Gea</a>, taking a heavy fall on his left side and leaving the pitch visibly in pain.



At the time,&nbsp;the Mexican striker appeared to be struggling to breathe, and many feared the worst — possibly fractured ribs or muscle damage. He had only been on the pitch for 25 minutes. <h2>What is Gimenez’s injury situation?</h2>



Thankfully, immediate reports ruled out any serious injury for <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/tag/tammy-abraham/">Abraham</a>.&nbsp;“The knock was only a knock,”&nbsp;reported Sky Italia‘s&nbsp;Gianluca Di Marzio, adding that&nbsp;“the medical staff has cleared him to return to training immediately.”&nbsp;The Englishman’s condition is not considered a concern, and he is expected to be available without limitations.



But the situation for Gimenez is less clear-cut. According to&nbsp;Peppe Di Stefano of Sky Italia,&nbsp;“the player is still feeling a bit of pain,”&nbsp;though&nbsp;“instrumental tests did not reveal any injuries.”&nbsp;The scans ruled out&nbsp;rib fractures or muscular lesions, confirming instead a&nbsp;bruise to the ribcage and abdominal muscles.

Despite the absence of structural damage,&nbsp;the player did not train with the squad this week, and the club is taking a&nbsp;day-by-day approach&nbsp;to his recovery. Milan is hopeful, but cautious. Tuttomercatoweb adds:&nbsp;“Gimenez is experiencing some discomfort but has a chance to be available for Friday’s game versus Udinese as his physical problem isn’t worrisome.”&nbsp;Whether he starts or not will depend on his progress in training over the next two days.

Manchester United are reportedly plotting a January move for Roma striker Tammy Abraham, <a href="https:\/\/www.calciomercato.com/news/roma-futuro-in-bilico-per-abraham-98691" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">according to a report</a> referenced in national newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport. 



Chelsea do have an option to buy back their former striker. However, the London side isn’t interested at the moment, and it is believed that United are monitoring the situation closely and would likely move to bring the Englishman to Old Trafford.



<h2>United seeking depth up front</h2>



Manager Erik ten Hag is the market to bring a striker to the club as United are pushing for a <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/champions-league-tv-schedule/">Champions League</a> berth this season. The Red Devils currently sit fourth in the standings having won four out of their five league games. Anthony Martial and <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/news/rashford-scores-late-winner-after-being-benched-by-ten-hag-20221231-WST-413956.html">Marcus Rashford</a> look rejuvenated leading the line but its no secret that both prefer playing out wide on the wings.



Abraham would thus be a fantastic addition for United who has scored 31 goals for Roma in 73 games since joining the Giallorossi in the summer of 2021. The report from Italy claims that Abraham is no longer ‘untouchable’ and ‘nontransferable.’ 



Moreover, it is believed that Abraham could have significant salary demands which Roma wouldn’t be able in a position to compete should United come calling. Abraham however hasn’t set the ground running this season like he did in his first campaign in Italy and was ignored by Gareth Southgate for England’s World Cup squad in Qatar.

Moving for Abraham would be a wise move for United as the player is already accustomed to the Premier League, and it could revive his England career. The transfer fee that Roma would command for letting Abraham go isn’t known yet, but it is believed that the Italian outfit will likely sell the player to raise funds. 



The striker has forged a great bond with manager Jose Mourinho in Rome, and it remains to be seen if the former United manager would let go the striker without a proper replacement in January.
