<p>The eleventh season of the National Women’s Soccer League, or <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/nwsl-tv-schedule-and-streaming-links/">NWSL</a>, kicks off Saturday, March 25, with all 12 teams in action that day and the following one. </p>



<p>Fans of the top women’s soccer division in the United States already knew the <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/nwsl-announces-schedule-for-2023-season-20230208-WST-419124.html">NWSL schedule</a>. Now, the league revealed where those games will be available. Fortunately, on a broad scale, it is fairly similar to the 2022 season in terms of where fans can find games.</p>



<p>CBS’s collection of platforms will broadcast all 172 games in both the NWSL and the NWSL Challenge Cup. This is the Cup competition that all 12 teams play in throughout the season. Most of these games are exclusive to <a href="https://paramountplus.qflm.net/c/330866/1007330/3065" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Paramount+</a>, CBS’s paid-streaming platform that also airs the UEFA men’s club competitions and Serie A, among others.</p>



<p>However, there are a number of games available on either the CBS TV channel or CBS Sports Network. In total, the OTA CBS channel will broadcast six games over both the NWSL and NWSL Challenge Cup. Importantly, this does include the NWSL Championship. Coverage of that title game is on both CBS and Paramount+. Then, there are 23 games in total airing on CBS Sports Network. Three of those are NWSL Cup Playoff games. Therefore, only one game in the NWSL Playoffs is not on TV. </p>

<p>Moreover, in its streaming information announcement, CBS announced an unnumbered quantity of NWSL games will also be on the upcoming <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/cbs-announces-24-7-soccer-channel-cbs-golazo-network-20230308-WST-422664.html">CBS Golazo Network</a>. Granted, this is partially available through <a href="https://paramountplus.qflm.net/c/330866/1007330/3065" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Paramount+</a>, but it is also on other platforms, too. </p>



<h2>NWSL streaming information and talent in 2023</h2>



<p>The play-by-play and analyst crew for the NWSL in 2023 features a number of familiar names. JP Dellacamera, Jenn Hildreth and Josh Eastern are just a few of the play-by-play voices back in the booth for the NWSL. Then, Jordan Angeli and Gary Bailey are co-commentators.</p>



<p>That being said, some great names are on the microphone for the league this season. Also, guest analysts will step in at times throughout the season. Here is the known list of names you can hear this year calling NWSL games.</p>

<p>An icon for calling soccer in the United States, Dellacamera has World Cup experience</p>

<p>This will be Eastern’s fourth year calling NWSL games, also working in the USL Championship and USL League One.</p>

<p>A year-round play-by-play voice for ESPN, Hildreth also features on MLS Season Pass.</p>



<ul><li>Joe Malfa</li></ul>



<p>This is Malfa’s fourth season calling NWSL games, and also features on ESPN’s college soccer coverage for both the men and women.</p>



<ul><li>Jacqui Oatley</li></ul>



<p>Oatley is new to the NWSL scene, but brings experience from the Premier League, World Cup and European Championships. </p>



<ul><li>Kate Scott</li></ul>



<p>Scott is the voice of the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA, but has ample experience in the soccer scene, too.</p>



<ul><li>Maura Sheridan</li></ul>



<p>Sheridan joined the NWSL coverage team last year, and also added World Cup qualifying and US Open Cup matches to her resume over recent years.</p>



<ul><li>Jamie Watson</li></ul>



<p>Watson has experience in more than just soccer. Her 650 hours in the broadcast booth include the NFL, MLB, Golf, Tennis, NCAA Basketball and even the World Cup.</p>

<p>Mike Watts has been around since almost the beginning of the NWSL. The 2023 campaign will be his eighth with the league.</p>

<p>Lindsey is a lead analyst for MLS Season Pass, but also played in all three professional women’s soccer leagues in the United States.</p>

<p>Loyden used to play in and work for the NWSL, but has experience in the booth with ESPN.</p>

<p>An icon of the men’s side of the sport in the United States, Meola is making his debut as a commentator in NWSL this season.</p>

<p>Previously working as a sideline reporter with CBS, Lianne Sanderson will work in the same role for many CBS Sports Network and Paramount+ games.</p>

<p>In a season where the passion and relevance of the English F.A cup have been in question, one team defies the odds and shows a true cup spirit. Of course I am referring to Reading, the team who have become all to familiar to football fans around the world after deservedly knocking out Liverpool in the 3rd round and Burnley are the latest top flight victim to the Royals. If you needed any sort of proof that the F.A cup can bring out the best in players, take into consideration that Reading haven’t won a game in their last six league outings and only won three league games in 2009 at their home ground, the Madjeski Stadium (and two of them came in January!). Their win in the 4th round once again got me thinking about how players become differently motivated when the competition changes and the mental challenges that players obviously face.</p>
<p>In the third round replay against Liverpool, at Anfield, Reading completely out played Liverpool and there were several occasions where the players were so confident that they were tricking and nut-megging their way through Carragher and Agger – two experienced decorated defenders. Yet we never see play like this from Reading in the league and they’re often guilty of dropping their heads when things don’t go their way. They’re a talented set of players, obviously the team isn’t of the same calibre as the previous season, but this team shouldn’t be in the relegation zone and that is clear when we know that they are capable of beating the likes of Liverpool and Burnley who are in the league above them.</p>
<p>So it comes down to confidence and belief, one week you’re in the league and struggling to garner belief that you can play to the best of your ability and the next week the cup comes about and you have all the confidence in the world. But why? I’m not sure even a Reading player could answer you that, it’s almost as if there are two Reading teams at the moment and although the scalps of two Premiership teams are impressive, they need to transfer this confidence they get playing in the cup over to the league otherwise Reading may not be starting next seasons cup run from the 3rd round…</p>
<p>It’s a strange phenomenon not only in football but psychology itself; the aspect of motivation is something fascinating and strange. From an outsiders view, it doesn’t make much sense how Reading can get beat by Plymouth (a team below them in the league) 4-1, then soon after outplay Liverpool – twice. Players are obviously very motivated to take on the top teams with the top players as if to prove a point to the football world, yet why do motivation and confidence levels change so dramatically because the name of the competition changes?</p>
<p>Now Reading come up against Sheffield United in the league, away; not an easy game for an team in the Championship. And I wonder if Reading will return to their poor league form or will be inspired by their cup performance. They recently played quite well against Nottingham Forrest away from home but the punters will no doubt prefer the Blades. This also raises the question of how much is ability down to confidence and motivation? Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo obviously have a lot of confidence in their play and the raw talent to match it, but could there be players that maybe could have been a lot better if they had just played with confidence and motivation. I believe that the more you think about motivation and confidence, the more it hinders your play and maybe the likes of Kaka, Ronaldo and Messi don’t even consider their motivation and instead try to focus on how their actual talent – so as if motivation takes a back seat therefore is constantly high.</p>
<p>You look at the England goalkeeper situation at the moment and people constantly mention the word ‘confidence’. David Seaman was England’s number one for years and I can’t ever remember his confidence being questioned, whereas people are worried that Robert Green is losing his concentration because of all the goals he is conceding. Seaman didn’t need confidence – he was just ability and although I’m not questioning how good Robert Green is but how good can you say England’s goalkeeper is if he loses faith in his own ability? A lack of confidence can ruin any player.</p>

<p>Can West Ham United’s new Italian talent have the same impact on the Hammers as club legend Paolo Di Canio did between 1999 and 2003? Gianfranco Zola signed Alessandro Diamanti for a fee of around £6 million in the summer. Big money for an untested player especially in light of West Ham’s supposed financial handicap. But it could prove to be a smart acquisition by Zola in light of the past weekends game.</p>
<p>After scoring a controversial penalty against Liverpool on Saturday he has been thrown into the limelight for the wrong reasons. Chris Waddle who commentated on the match for ESPN UK was convinced that Diamanti touched the ball twice – as he took the penalty- but the Italian himself is adamant he scored a legitimate goal, “I don’t care what TV shows. It deserved a goal. I don’t believe I touched it twice. I was trying to hit it down the middle and that is what happened.” I will leave you to make up your own mind.</p>
<p>Signed from Livrono in Serie A, Diamanti was a star in Serie B last year, guiding the Amaranti to promotion with six goals in the final ten matches of the season as the Tuscan side went up via the playoffs. He is also accustomed to scoring magnificent long-range efforts, such as the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VARA8n5MJ3k">edge of the box volley for Livorno against Triestina</a>. </p>
<p>His current boss has likened the player to himself and former Hammer, Di Canio, as Zola told Italian sports daily, Gazzetta dello Sport: “He’s a cross between myself and Paolo Di Canio.” These are large boots to fill given the standing Di Canio has amongst the West Ham faithful and after the performance against Liverpool he showed that the potential is most definitely there. </p>
<p>Alessandro Diamanti is a very pacy player with fantastic ball control and explosive shot, with the added bonous of being a set-piece specialist, it appears West Ham have unearthed another Italian gem. He is somewhat of a late bloomer, spending most of his career so far in the lower divisions of Italian football with hometown club Prato, and it wasn’t until he befriended Fabio Galante who recommended him to the Livrono chairman.</p>
<p>More recently, for West Ham reserves he banged in two magnificent free kicks in a 6-0 rout over Birmingham, after almost six months out. It is his goals but also his personality that will win over the fans, Diamanti stated on joining, “I chose West Ham because the club have the tradition of playing great football. Also, because the West Ham fans are really passionate and that is the way I am.”</p>
<p>Once full match fitness is achieved he will be a real thorn in the side of Premier League defences. You have been warned.</p>
