
<p>United States Soccer has announced that Gregg Berhalter will not take charge of the team’s January training camp. Instead, Anthony Hudson has been named as the USMNT head coach for the camp and upcoming friendly matches.</p>



<p>Hudson previously managed the Bahrain and New Zealand national teams. He collected the 2016 Oceania Football Confederation Nations Cup with New Zealand. Also, the coach managed Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids and the United States U20 team. Hudson joined the USMNT as an assistant coach in 2021. </p>

<h5>Soccer organization investigating allegations</h5>



<p>U.S. Soccer is currently investigating a domestic violence incident involving Berhalter and <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/news/gregg-berhalter-threatened-with-blackmail-during-world-cup-20230103-WST-414243.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">blackmail accusations</a>. The <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/nations/usmnt-tv-schedule/">USMNT</a> head coach <a href="https:\/\/twitter.com/GreggBerhalter_/status/1610358071737389057" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">recently admitted</a> to kicking his girlfriend in the legs during an altercation that took place 31 years ago. Berhalter is now married to the aforementioned woman. </p>



<p>The 49-year-old coach claims that someone contacted U.S. Soccer during the World Cup in Qatar saying that they had information on the incident. U.S. Soccer issued a statement on the unsettling issues.</p>



<p>“Through this process, U.S. Soccer has learned about potential inappropriate behavior towards multiple members of our staff by individuals outside of our organization. We take such behavior seriously and have expanded our investigation to include those allegations,” <a href="https:\/\/www.ussoccer.com/stories/2023/01/us-soccer-statement-regarding-usmnt-head-coach-gregg-berhalter" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">said</a> U.S. Soccer.</p>



<h2>Anthony Hudson not necessarily permanent USMNT head coach</h2>



<p>Berhalter’s future with the USMNT is still up in the air. The Americans had a fairly up and down 2022 World Cup. Although they did progress through a tricky group stage, the USMNT were <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/news/mistakes-cost-young-us-eliminated-by-netherlands-in-world-cup-20221203-WST-411058.html">thoroughly beaten by the Netherlands</a> in the knockout round. Berhalter made some interesting coaching decisions. He has held the head coaching role of the American team since 2018.</p>



<p>Hudson will now control the upcoming USMNT training camp and be on the sidelines for two friendly games. The Americans face Serbia on Jan. 25 and Colombia three days later. Both fixtures, as well as the training camp, will be played in the Los Angeles area.</p>

<p>Luis Enrique is out as head coach of <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/nations/spain-national-team-tv-schedule/">Spain</a>. The move comes less than a month after he labeled himself as the <a href="https:\/\/www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sports/spains-luis-enrique-believes-he-is-best-manager-world-2022-11-11/#:~:text=After%20announcing%20his%2026%2Dman,a%20news%20conference%20on%20Friday." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">best coach in the world</a>. Royal Spanish Football Federation announced the decision following the team’s shock <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/category/world-cup-2022/">World Cup</a> knockout loss to <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/nations/morocco-national-team-tv-schedule/">Morocco</a> on Tuesday.</p>



<p>“The RFEF would like to thank Luis Enrique and his entire coaching staff,” <a href="https:\/\/www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12764011/luis-enrique-spain-head-coach-leaves-role-after-world-cup-exit" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">stated</a> Spain’s governing body of the sport.</p>



<p>“The sports management of the RFEF has transferred to the president a report in which it is determined that a new project should start for the Spanish team, with the aim of continuing with the growth achieved in recent years thanks to the work carried out by Luis Enrique and his collaborators.”</p>



<p>“Both the president, Luis Rubiales, and the sports director, Jose Francisco Molina, have transmitted the decision to the coach.”</p>

<h2>Luis Enrique departs Spain after hot World Cup start</h2>



<p>Spain started the 2022 World Cup with a <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/news/spain-set-standard-with-win-over-costa-rica-20221124-WST-409806.html">dominating 7-0 victory</a> against Costa Rica. However, the global powerhouse then drew to Germany and suffered a defeat to Japan in the last group stage game. Spain narrowly qualified for the knockout phase on goal difference.</p>



<p>The tipping point then came when they were then knocked out of the competition by Morocco. Spain could not break down the African defense and failed to score during the entire match. Morocco then won the game on penalties 3-0.</p>



<p>Although his contract was set to expire at the end of the year, Enrique has now departed the team early.</p>



<h5>Penalties haven’t treated the coach well</h5>



<p>Enrique had been in the role since 2018, which included a short departure from the team for personal reasons. The former Barcelona boss took Spain to the semifinals of the 2020 Euros, but lost on penalties to eventual champions Italy.</p>



<p>Former Spanish youth coach Luis de la Fuente has been named as Enrique successor. De la Fuente has previously coached Spain’s U19s, U21s, U23s since 2013. </p>
