<p>Arsenal beat <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/manchester-city-tv-schedule/">Manchester City</a> 4-1 in the penalty shootout to win the <a href="https://www.thefa.com/competitions/the-fa-community-shield" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Community Shield</a> at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon after the game finished 1-1 at the end of normal time. </p>



<p>City were by far the better side throughout the game, dominating possession and playing their usual fluid passing football.</p>



<p>However, it was the <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/arsenal-tv-schedule/">Gunners</a> who had the best opportunity of the first half when City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega denied new signing Kai Havertz before Gabriel Martinelli’s rebound was well blocked. </p>



<h5>Lack of clear chances</h5>



<p>City didn’t have any clear-cut openings despite having the lion’s share of the ball and Erling Haaland in particular, failed to make any significant contribution up front.</p>



<p>Havertz then wasted a golden opportunity just five minutes before the half-time whistle when he shoot straight to Ortega from just eight yards out after Bukayo Saka had got the better of Manuel Akanji in the right wing. </p>



<p>City dominated the second half and looked comfortable on the ball with substitutes Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne coming off the bench.</p>



<p>Pep Guardiola’s side took the lead in the 77<sup>th</sup> minute when another substitute Cole Palmer scored an absolute beauty past Aaron Ramsdale in the left top corner. </p>



<p>The 21-year-old became the youngest player since Cesc Fabregas to score in the Community Shield with the superb strike.</p>

<p>City almost doubled their lead with six minutes when Julian Alvarez played Foden through on goal, but the English International’s goal-bound effort deflected off Ramsdale to keep Arsenal in the game. </p>



<h5>Late drama deep in stoppage time</h5>



<p>It looked like the reigning Premier League Champions would hold on for the win but Arenal struck as late as the 101<sup>st</sup> minute when Leandro Trossard’s mistimed effort deflected off Akanji to hit the back of the net to restore parity on the day. </p>



<p>De Bruyne and Rodri missed their spot kicks in the shootout before Fabio Viera scored the goal to give Arsenal the win.</p>

<p>Record signing Declan Rice said after the game, “m absolutely buzzing. This is what I envisioned when I joined the club. It was a really tough game, but we dug in there, created some really good chances and had a bit of luck at the end.”</p>



<p>“You just have to be patient against them. The manager said before the game that it’s like a load of little games rolled into one. They move and change so much. You can get frustrated but it’s about sticking to what the manager wants. It’s my first [trophy] for this club, and Aaron’s, so we’re buzzing.”</p>

<p>Top officials within English soccer are set to discuss potentially massive changes with the sport inside the country. Overhauls to the <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/fa-cup-tv-schedule/">FA Cup</a>, <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/league-cup-tv-schedule/">Carabao Cup</a> and Community Shield will all be debated. A meeting to hash out these possible alterations is scheduled for Friday.</p>



<p><em><a href="https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk/article/english-football-chiefs-begin-talks-over-biggest-shake-up-in-30-years-db2wnsdrv" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Times</a></em> is reporting that six leading officials in the <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/premier-league-tv-schedule/">Premier League</a>, FA, and EFL will be present at the summit. Premier League chairwoman Alison Brittain, along with her counterparts Debbie Hewitt (FA) and Rick Parry (EFL) will attend the meeting. Chief executives Richard Masters (EPL), Mark Bullingham (FA) and Trevor Birch (EFL) are also set to join as well.</p>



<h2>FA Cup, Carabao Cup changes could ease player burnout in English soccer</h2>



<p>Possible changes to the FA Cup include ending replays earlier in the competition. The tournament currently has replays in place up until the fourth round. However, big clubs want to end replays in the third round of play. This is the stage in which Premier League sides enter the competition.</p>



<p>Carabao Cup matches could be set for even bigger modifications. One potential move could be to prohibit clubs currently in European play from the competition. This would obviously affect the biggest teams in the country. Another option could also be to make these teams field U21 squads for the Carabao Cup. The EFL is apparently open to these ideas, but is seeking financial compensation.</p>



<p>These change are in play to help ease player burnout. Both the <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/champions-league-tv-schedule/">UEFA Champions League</a> and <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/world-cup-tv-schedule/">FIFA World Cup</a> will be expanding in the near future. Massive clubs that feature international stars already play many games each year, and it will only increase. Changes to the FA Cup and Carabao Cup would address these concerns.</p>



<h5>Big clubs want Community Shield moved</h5>



<p>Big Premier League teams are also wanting to change the Community Shield. Normally played a week prior to the top flight starting, teams claim that it affects their ability to properly prepare for the grueling Premier League campaign. A mid-season matchup could be in the works for the friendly match. Playing the Community Shield overseas is also on the table as well.</p>



<p>Moving the Community Shield would also free up more time for preseason matches. <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.com/news/premier-league-plans-u-s-preseason-tournament-in-2023-20221018-WST-404837.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Reports</a> of a possible Premier League preseason tour of the United States surfaced a few months ago.</p>



<p>Like most things with sports, money is a major factor in these discussions. Lower level teams have been negotiating an increase in funding of $356 million from the Premier League. However, top flight teams have only reportedly gone as high as $190 million so far. Friday’s meeting would give the sides a chance to meet in the middle.</p>
