
<p>Chelsea named Frank Lampard as caretaker manager for the remainder of the current campaign. The former club legend played over 600 total matches for the Blues. He also previously managed <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/chelsea-tv-schedule/">Chelsea</a> from the summer of 2019 to January of 2021. Lampard returns to coaching following his <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/everton-sack-frank-lampard-with-toffees-in-relegation-zone-20230123-WST-416510.html">departure from Everton</a> three months ago.</p>



<p>“We are delighted to welcome Frank back to Stamford Bridge,” a <a href="https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/article/club-statement-frank-lampard" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">joint statement</a> by co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali read. “Frank is a Premier League Hall of Famer and a legend at this club. As we continue our thorough and exhaustive process for a permanent head coach, we want to provide the club and our fans with a clear and stable plan for the remainder of the season. We want to give ourselves every chance of success and Frank has all of the characteristics and qualities we need to drive us to the finish line.”</p>



<h5>Club legend taking role one step at a time </h5>



<p>Chelsea are currently discussing the permanent position with multiple applicants. <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/chelsea-toys-with-lampard-as-interim-and-enrique-for-long-term-20230405-WST-426838.html">Luis Enrique</a>, <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/nagelsmann-and-silva-early-favorites-for-chelsea-job-20230403-WST-426448.html">Julian Nagelsmann</a>, Antonio Conte and Xabi Alonso are reportedly among the candidates for the role. </p>

<p>Reporters asked Lampard about his potential permanent status during a press conference. “No, I think the explanation of my role speaks for itself, so I’m not getting ahead of myself,” <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJvgvRlEM1s" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">replied</a> Lampard.” </p>



<p>“I want to do the job to the best of my ability and in a way that can impact the club. I want to do the best I possibly can until the end of the season and after that, we’ll see what happens.”</p>



<h2>Lampard says Chelsea caretaker manager was ‘easy decision’</h2>



<p>Lampard also faced questions about taking just a temporary job. “It was an easy decision for me because this is my club,” <a href="https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/article/lampard-delighted-to-be-back-at-his-club" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">stated</a> Lampard.</p>



<p>“I’m also a very practical person. I’ve been on a different path since I left Chelsea, but to come back as I’ve been asked and be back here with a belief that I can help until the end of the season is really great. I’m delighted to get the opportunity and I’m thankful.”</p>



<p>Lampard’s first match back in charge at the club will be against Wolves on Saturday. He will then have the tough task of facing <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/real-madrid-tv-schedule/">Real Madrid</a> in the <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/champions-league-tv-schedule/">Champions League</a> quarterfinals next week.</p>
