<p>Manchester City beat <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/teams/arsenal-tv-schedule/">Arsenal</a>, 3-1, at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday in one of the more anticipated games of the current <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/premier-league-tv-schedule/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Premier League</a> campaign. Arsenal entered the match three points ahead of <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/the-history-of-manchester-united-vs-manchester-city-gary-james-interview-video-20130406-CMS-52551.html">City</a> for the league lead. The two clubs racked up 31 combined victories in just 43 top flight matches so far this season.</p>



<p>Arsenal were the better side in the opening 20 minutes of the match. The hosts had a majority of the possession and had a very good opportunity to open the scoring. Eddie Nketiah sent an open header wide of the post in the 22nd minute after Oleksandr Zinchenko put the ball on a platter. Nevertheless, City struck first.</p>



<h5>Arsenal defenders gave the ball away too easily on the night</h5>



<p>Gunners defender Takehiro Tomiyasu attempted a back pass to goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. The ball, however, was played well short of the keeper and Kevin De Bruyne pounced on the opportunity. While the ball was handed straight to the star midfielder, De Bruyne finished off the goal very well. The Belgian had to lift the ball over an onrushing Ramsdale to put his team ahead.</p>

<p>The Gunners were given a penalty 15 minutes later. Anthony Taylor awarded the hosts the spot kick after Ederson clattered into Nketiah, failing to get any of the ball. Bukayo Saka then stepped up to take the shot and <a href="https://twitter.com/NBCSportsSoccer/status/1625951886284099589" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">sent the Brazilian keeper the wrong way</a> to level the score. The goal was the winger’s eighth Premier League goal of the season.</p>



<p>City were then given a penalty of their own in the 57th minute. Gabriel essentially wrestled Erling Haaland down to the ground inside the penalty area. The Arsenal defender was also booked for the tackle. However, the decision was reversed after a VAR intervention. Haaland was offside when he initially received the ball. Gabriel’s yellow card was rescinded as well.</p>



<h2>Grealish puts City on top of Arsenal in Premier League</h2>



<p>Nevertheless, Jack Grealish put the visitors ahead 14 minutes later. Much like the first City goal, Arsenal gave the ball away to start the move. This time, it was Gabriel who gave possession straight to the opposition. Bernardo Silva played in Haaland, who found Ilkay Gundogan at the edge of the box. The German then played a smart pass to a wide open Grealish to finish off the goal.</p>

<p>Haaland capped off the victory with his league-leading 26th goal in his first Premier League campaign. Perhaps unsurprisingly, De Bruyne fed the Norwegian the ball for the assist. The duo have now linked up six times in England’s top flight during the current campaign. </p>



<p>The top two teams in the Premier League will still meet in the league once more time. City will host the Gunners on April 26th. Arsenal will try to collect three points against City in Premier League play for the first time since 2015.</p>



<p>Also, while City ends the night ahead on the table, Arsenal has played one fewer. That makeup game is against relegation-entrenched Everton on March 1. However, Arsenal’s next game in league play is on the road against Aston Villa. Manchester City looks to retain its new spot at the top when it plays Nottingham Forest. Both games are on Saturday, Feb. 18.</p>

Man City snatch Premier League lead from Arsenal with win

Manchester City beat Arsenal in north London to retake the Premier League lead based on goal differential. The Gunners played fewer games.

<p>Arsenal reiterated their title credentials on Boxing Day after coming back from behind to beat West Ham United by 3 goals to one, thanks to a stunning second half comeback at the Emirates. </p>



<h5>West Ham take the lead</h5>



<p>Said Benrahma’s penalty in the 27<sup>th</sup> minute had given the visitors an unlikely lead but an explosive second half which saw the Gunners score three goals in 16 minutes gave the home side three points.</p>



<p>The result meant Mikel Arteta’s side have gone 7 points clear over second placed Newcastle at the top of the table.</p>



<p>David Moyes’ side came into the game with a clever game plan to play long balls in the heart of the Arsenal defense which Mikel Antonio could exploit with Jarrod Bowen and Benrahma’s runs in behind. </p>



<p>This clearly worked as Bowen was caught by William Saliba following a long ball that Antonio held up and laid off; and despite Arsenal’s complaints the penalty had been given. Benrahma stepped up to score to give the visitors a vital lead which they held on going into the interval.</p>



<h5>Saka transforms the game</h5>



<p>The Gunners however looked transformed after the break with Bukayo Saka restoring parity in the 53<sup>rd</sup> minute. </p>



<p>The English youngster who had a fine <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/category/world-cup-2022/">World Cup</a>, picked up the ball in the penalty box and calmly slotted past Lukasz Fabianski after Martin Odegaard’s left footed effort was heading wide. </p>

<p>Five minutes later, Granit Xhaka found Gabriel Martinelli in the left flank and the Brazilian took a quick first touch before lashing it past Fabianski in the near post to give the table toppers a 2-1 lead. </p>



<p>Chants of ‘One Arsene Wenger’ rounded across the Emirates with the legendary former manager in attendance.</p>

<p>Eddie Nketiah completed the rout in the 16<sup>th</sup> minute with a brilliant turn and shot past the helpless Fabianski in the Hammers goal. </p>



<p>Arsenal had turned the game on its head and the result squashed any claims that this young Arsenal side might crumble under pressure as they chase the Premier League title.</p>



<p>The results sees Arteta’s side go 8 points clear of reigning Champions Manchester City who are in third, having played an extra game. For West Ham, its back to the drawing board for Moyes who is now under pressure and time running out with his team in 16<sup>th</sup> having now lost 4 games on the trot.</p>

That showed on Monday. Gareth Southgate’s men ran rampant through a helpless Iran defense.</p>



<p>The headline stars for England were the youth on the pitch making their World Cup debuts. Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka showed why they are among the hottest properties in world soccer.</p>



<h2>Bellingham leads the England youth at the World Cup</h2>



<p>Bellingham, who is still only 19, put <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/englands-world-cup-start-has-fans-dreaming-of-ultimate-prize-20221123-WST-409402.html">England into an unassailable lead</a>. More impressively, he showed a maturity beyond his teenage years. Simply put, his performance showed just why a host of leading European clubs are looking at him. </p>

<p>It should not be a surprise, either. Since making his debut at Birmingham City at 16, everyone tipped him for stardom. The anticipation doubled upon making a $35 million move to Borussia Dortmund within a year of his first professional game. Bellingham then developed into a physical force capable of scoring for Dortmund in the heart of its midfield. This season, he has nine goals in 22 games, despite playing a deep role.</p>



<p>His growing influence is such that he’s already been named as captain for his club in the UEFA Champions League. Reminder, he is still only 19.</p>



<p>His energy levels are infectious. He never stands still, and he drives his teammates forward. Bellingham’s touch and awareness with the ball belies his age. It is arguably more akin to someone who has at least 50 international caps to their name. </p>



<p>England have had a few players in the past who announced themselves to the world in the greatest competition on the planet with goals. The performances set them up for future success. Even then, Bellingham’s progress is startling, deservedly turning heads. So, when the final whistle blew in Qatar on Monday, anyone who had already seen him play said, ‘told you so’.</p>



<p>After all, many believe that <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/2022/09/27/england-cant-win-the-world-cup-without-jude-bellingham/">England can’t win the World Cup without Jude Bellingham</a>.</p>



<h5>Young Gunner firing for England</h5>



<p>A little further up the field for England, another youth star started this World Cup with a bang. That was the scorer of two of the six against Iran, Bukayo Saka. While his style is more flamboyant than that of Bellingham, they share traits which stand them apart from many others their age. They are always willing to learn. Plus, each has a humility which improves their position as two of the brightest talents in the competition.</p>

<p>That almost analytical, yet hard working, nature is something that oozes from Saka. He is a star that overcame immeasurable disappointment just over a year ago. He failed for England at the final hurdle in the European Championship. Saka saw his penalty, England’s last chance to stay alive against Italy in Final, saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma. The save on Saka denied England a first major trophy since 1966. </p>



<p>Rather than wallow in self-pity, Saka knuckled down and worked hard on his game. Hid perseverance had him named England’s Player of the Year in 2021. On a more consistent basis, he is a <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/top-5-performing-premier-league-players-of-the-season-so-far-20221006-WST-403258.html">key reason for Arsenal’s success</a> this campaign. With the Gunners at the top of the league, the 21-year-old forward has <a href="https://www.transfermarkt.us/bukayo-saka/leistungsdaten/spieler/433177" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">four goals and six assists</a> in 14 Premier League games.</p>



<p>Now, Saka has racked up over 100 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions. Also, he has 20 England caps to his name in the last two years. So, if his current form continues, he’ll become the hottest property in English soccer.</p>
