
<p>YouTube TV has increased its membership price, with the monthly subscription now set to cost users $72.99, the first increase in almost three years.</p>



<p>The cable TV replacement service launched in 2017, charging just $35 for a monthly subscription. </p>



<p>With the new price, the cost of the service has more than doubled in five years. Having gone up to $40 in 2018 and shooting up to $65 by the end of 2020.</p>

<p><a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/best-youtube-channel-2022-world-soccer-talk-awards">YouTube</a> announced the change using their official Twitter handle, citing that content costs have increased and they are continuing to invest in their quality of service. </p>



<p>New members will pay the new rate immediately.</p>



<p>Existing members will see the price change from the 18th of April. One positive is that the 4K service cost has been lowered from $19.99 to $9.99 a month.</p>



<p>Following its $2 billion year deal, Google started charging subscribers $300 a year for the <a href="https://worldsoccertalk.com/tv/nfl-tv-revenue-dwarfs-premier-league-20221008-WST-403501.html">NFL</a> Sunday Ticket. </p>



<p>A report from <a href="https://tvanswerman.com/2022/05/11/directv-does-nfl-sunday-ticket-make-a-profit/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">TV Answer Man</a> claimed last year that the service is a ‘money-losing endeavor’. Thus it will be interesting to see the aftermath of raising the YouTube TV price for non-subscribers.</p>



<h5>Google on a cost-cutting mission</h5>



<p>Over the past few months, Google has been on a cost-cutting mission as the tech industry undergoes a period of uncertainty and change.</p>



<p>The tech giant has shut down research departments and killed some of their niche products, and there have been reports of employees being required to <a href="https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/02/google-has-gotten-so-cheap-employees-now-have-to-share-desks/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">share desks</a>. </p>



<p>As the company cuts costs, it is also looking to grow revenue. Thus, the rise in subscription services comes as no surprise. </p>



<p>The company has increased the cost of a number of its product offerings. </p>



<p>YouTube Family Plan costs have increased by over 27,% while Google Workspace business account costs have risen by 20%.</p>

<p>Sling TV, while less expensive, is more flexible with its a la carte offerings. You can pick and choose the different packages you want. But ultimately, depending on what packages you select, you may find yourself paying more for <a href="https:\/\/worldsoccertalk.cms.futbolsitesnetwork.com/providers/sling-tv/">Sling TV</a> than the more expensive competitors.</p>
<p>All three services (YouTube TV vs fuboTV vs Sling TV) offer many of the channels you’re used to watching on cable. Plus, you get your local channels too. However, depending where you live in the country, each service may not offer <em>all</em> the local channels. If any of the streaming services don’t have your favorite local channel, you can get them by using a <a href="https:\/\/amzn.to/3HNKUaJ" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">HD antenna</a>.</p>
<p>If you do decide to cut the cord, you’ll still need Internet service. However, you don’t have to rent the modem from Xfinity each month. <p>It’s important to note that you don’t need a cable service. All you need is an Internet connection. With it, you can watch your favorite shows across a range of devices as well as your smart TV.</p>
<p>Firstly, you can watch it on Apple and Android phones. Secondly, it is available on streaming devices such as Apple TV, Android TV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Chromecast. Thirdly, it works on Windows and Apple computers. Fourthly, you can watch on game consoles such as Xbox and PlayStation. Lastly, they are available on smart TVs including LG and Samsung.</p>
<h5>Ways to cut your cable bill</h5>
<p>Or, if you’re on the fence and can’t decide whether to cut the cord with your cable company, you can always try the “chicken challenge.” What is it, you ask? Call your cable company and tell them you’re cancelling your cable service because it’s too expensive. Hold firm. And then see if they offer you a discounted rate for cable plus Internet for you to stay with your current service.</p>

<p>Carriage disputes between cable/satellite providers and TV broadcasters seem to happen all the time. Generally, we associate those with Regional Sports Networks and the ability to watch local sports teams. However, the most recent dispute involves a streaming service and a major television broadcaster.</p>
<p>This most recent disagreement involves YouTube TV and NBCUniversal. The two American giants must come to an agreement prior to Thursday’s deadline. Furthermore, a failure to reach a deal means YouTube TV will remove all of NBCUniversal’s channels from their platform. Consequently, there would be a significant loss of content, including soccer coverage, for the service’s subscribers.</p>
<h3>YouTube TV potentially losing chunk of channels</h3>
<p>NBCUniversal currently owns 14 different channels that could no longer be available on YouTube TV. In fact, sports fans that follow the Premier League would lose almost all of their content. NBC, NBCSN, USA Network, Telemundo and Universo, all of which held Premier League games this season, are at risk. Moreover, channels like MSNBC, E!, Golf Channel, CNBC, SYFY and Bravo could be gone without a deal.</p>
<p>This week, NBCUniversal released a statement regarding their position in the standoff between the two media conglomerates.</p>
<blockquote><p><em>“NBCUniversal is seeking fair rates from Google for YouTube TV’s continued carriage of the only portfolio offering entertainment, Hispanic, news, and sports networks. Unfortunately, Google is refusing to make a deal at these fair rates and is willing to withhold entertainment, news and sports programming from their paying customers. NBCUniversal feels a responsibility to inform our fans that they are at risk of losing their favorite shows if Google continues with their demands.”</em></p></blockquote>
<p>Contrarily, YouTube TV also <a href="https:\/\/blog.youtube/news-and-events/youtube-tv-and-nbc-programming-update/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released a statement</a> regarding their stance on the issue. The service is not like a normal cable provider, and it believes NBCUniversal is not providing a fair price.</p>
<blockquote><p><em>“Our ask is that NBCU treats YouTube TV like any other TV provider. In other words, for the duration of our agreement, YouTube TV seeks the same rates that services of a similar size get from NBCU so we can continue offering YouTube TV to members at a competitive and fair price.”</em></p></blockquote>
<p>According to an official communication from the streaming service, YouTube TV subscribers will not pay for channels they do not have access to. If the two companies fail to come to an agreement, the service will temporarily lower their rates. The service plans to lower their rates from $64.99 per month to $54.99. This price reduction would last until NBCUniversal’s channels reappear on the service’s lineup.</p>
<h3>Unfortunate Timing</h3>
<p>Timing is never good for these kinds of disputes; however, in this particular case, the timing couldn’t be any worse. NBC carries Sunday Night Football. With the current NFL season only starting a few weeks ago, subscribers could be set to miss most of NBC’s games this season.</p>

If the service drops the NBC networks this week, soccer fans would miss out on quite possibly the marquee matchup of the entire season on Sunday: Liverpool versus Manchester City. </p>
<p>Not only would Premier League fans that currently pay for YouTube TV miss out on a massive match this weekend, but they could potentially be locked out of hundreds of Premier League games throughout the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign.</p>
<p>While <a href="https:\/\/imp.i305175.net/DV3NWa" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Peacock</a> does show select Premier League matches, it wouldn’t be an option in this case because matches that are televised on NBCSN are not available live on Peacock.</p>

<p>I finally caught up last night on my weekend-soccer viewing, and I had a chance to review Fox Soccer Channel’s new show, <em><strong>Soccer Saturday Plus</strong></em> in more detail.</p>
<p>Here’s what I noticed:</p>
<p><strong>1.</strong> They showed the highlights of each of the English Premier League matches, except the Fuham v Newcastle and Wigan v West Brom matches. Was it me or did they flub and not show the footage by mistake?</p>
<p><strong>2.</strong> The show definitely makes the “EPL Review Show” less useful, but the EPL Review show does offer extended highlights, runs 60 minutes and should remain on FSC’s programming schedule.</p>
<p><strong>3.</strong> The chemistry between Webster and Bretos is solid. You can tell they’ve had a lot more TV experience than Steven Cohen and Nick Geber.</p>
