Playoffs Are Dead, MLS Just Doesn't Know It Yet

Now that 48 hours have passed since the 2010 MLS Cup, it's time to face reality and that is that the MLS Playoff system is broken and dead. It's a joke. Absolutely meaningless. And needs to be completely revamped so it isn't the way of crowning the MLS champion. Or the playoffs need to be […]

What If the Premier League Adopted A MLS Playoff System?

There's been so much uproar during the past few weeks about whether the playoff system for Major League Soccer is a joke or not. First, the Eastern Conference Final featured two teams, San Jose Earthquakes versus Colorado Rapids, who were decidedly western teams. And second, the playoff system resulted in a final featuring the team […]

Premier League Footballer's Post Match Interview: Comedy Video

I came across this video which features Match Of The Day commentator Jonathan Pearce interviewing fictional football Jason Bent after a match. It's definitely worth a good laugh and sums up some of the egotistical Premier League footballers who star in the division. The segment was included in the BBC 3 comedy, "Lee Nelson's Well […]

The new owners of Blackburn Rovers, Indian poultry giant Venky's, are reported to be considering renaming Ewood Park either to Venky's Stadium or to adopt a different name depending if they can find a sponsor willing to purchase the naming rights to the stadium in Lancashire. If the plan to change the name of the […]

Is Major League Soccer Heading In The Right Direction?

A simple question, but it's probably a complicated answer. Is Major League Soccer heading in the right direction or not? MLS commissioner Don Garber revealed several upcoming changes to MLS during half-time of the 2010 MLS Cup Final last night. But the final itself left a lot to be desired and possibly was an indication […]

Luis Suarez Bites PSV Eindhoven Opponent: Video

Somebody should tell Luis Suarez that the casting for the next season of HBO's True Blood has already been finalized. The Ajax and Uruguay striker will face possible disciplinary action after he bit an opponent from PSV Eindhoven. The incident happened in Saturday's 0-0 draw. The referee didn't see it but Suarez, in addition to […]

Colorado Beats Dallas to Win MLS Cup But Empty Seats Cast a Dark Shadow

The 2010 MLS Cup Final is over. While congratulations need to go to Colorado Rapids for winning the final, the lasting memories for me from this final are (1) some world-class saves by Kevin Hartman and Matt Pickens, (2) some awful refereeing decisions by Baldomero Toledo, and (3), worst of all, the embarrassing number of […]

Zlatan Ibrahimovic Bicycle Kick Goal Against Fiorentina: Video

If you missed Zlatan Ibrahimovic's bicycle kick for AC Milan this past weekend, or you want to watch it again and again, see the above video. There are few goals in soccer that are as beautiful as a bicycle kick. While this wasn't the best bicycle kick by any means, it still showed how skillful […]

Should West Ham United Sack Avram Grant Or Not?

The number of adjectives to describe West Ham's performance against Liverpool on Saturday are too many to fit on one hand. Lethargic, woeful, uninspired, dispassionate, lifeless, pathetic and flaccid, just to name a few. After the first half was over and West Ham United were losing 3-0 at Anfield, I thought that there was at […]

One of the defining moments from Arsenal's 3-2 loss against Tottenham Hotspur Saturday was Arsene Wenger showing his frustration by smashing his water bottle into the ground after Spurs came back from two-nil down to win 3-2. Wenger hates to lose and is quite apparent when his anger gets the better of him as it […]
