Notable English MLS Flops

Based on the rhetoric from some recent comments on this website you would believe any player with a Premier League history should dominate the lowly US based Major League Soccer. But the history of English born players with significant Premier League experience in MLS is a mixed bag. Some players like Ian Bishop and Darren […]

The CONCACAF Champions League returns next week and in one of the more appetizing matchups, the Impact de Montreal of USL faces Mexico's Santos Laguna. Maryland United

In what can only be described as a tragedy of epic proportions for MLS and the club, DC United today announced its intent to build a stadium in Prince George's County Maryland. Give credit to PG's county for stepping up but a big MLS Talk dart to the District of Columbia and DC Council for […]

Avoiding Eurosnobbery

Eurosnoberry is found throughout the English language football press. While most commentators who work for English language mediums have inherent biases some are actually better than others. Other European based press is equally bad if not worse than the English language press. In the UK based press, The Guardian Unlimited makes an effort on its […]

The Beckham Saga: Eurosnobbery 101

Eurosnobs have taken control of English language world football. Between the media whose primary focus is European leagues and European World Cup qualifying ( Tim Vickery of the BBC, and Martin Rogers of Yahoo! are very notable exceptions to this unfortunate trend.) and newly minted football fans in English speaking countries whose sole focus and […]

US-Mexico Smashes Viewership Records

The Revolution is being televised. Despite almost constant hostility from significant elements of the mainstream media (including basketball announcers on ESPN who it seem deliberately mispronounce the names of football teams and players during the lead into MLS or National Team matches) Wednesday's US-Mexico match shattered all sorts of record. In short a lot of […]

Will Blanco Save Mexico?

Mexican Football is in a state of panic. The high priced cosmopolitan foreign manager, Sven Goran Eriksson has not worked out. Donovan Turns the Tables on El Tri, Again

"I thought we dominated them through the middle. DaMarcus [Beasley] and Clint [Dempsey] did a great job tucking in and helping and working. Michael [Bradley] and Sacha [Kljestan] were excellent and Mexico had no where to go. Any loose ball we seemed to pick up. We were on top of them, anticipating well, and they […]

Same Scoreline: Different Story

2-0. The scoreline which rings so familiar in US-Mexico clashes was again repeated tonight. But this game was different. Firstly, Mexico with a virtual "B" attacking squad thanks partly to suspensions and injuries and also to the stubbornness of El Tri's manager was playing with a foot tied. This allowed the US to maintain greater […]
