Impressions of Manchester City vs Chelsea at Yankee Stadium

Yankee Stadium was the venue for a game that seemed somewhat anti-climactic after the epic Champions League Final and long Premier League season. Manchester City defeated Chelsea 5-3 in the match, but the result was overshadowed by last week’s announcement of Manchester City’s investment in MLS. MCFC’s investment in the US domestic game served to […]

Why Kolo Toure Is A Worthwhile Gamble For Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers

Kolo Toure, who has been linked with Liverpool in recent days, has completed a remarkable comeback season. The central defender’s recent seasons were characterized by drug suspensions, alleged salacious affairs and uneven play. Former NASL Star Brian Kidd Is Ideal Candidate To Lead Manchester City On US Tour

When Brian Kidd was named caretaker manager of Manchester City on Monday, it brought me down memory lane. As a young Fort Lauderdale Strikers ball boy, Kidd had been one of the goal scoring heroes of mine. In 1982, when the Strikers signed Kidd, it was such a big deal that my family and I […]

"Roberto Mancini: A Footballing Life" Book Review

Italian sportswriter Luca Caioli’s new biography entitled Roberto Mancini is readable, revealing, but yet somehow incomplete. Caioli relies exclusively on interviews with influential contemporaries of Mancini to paint a picture of the man as a player and as a manager. The interviews are filled with interesting nuggets, including Gianluca Vialli — his Sampdoria teammate — […]

Sunderland: A Club Transformed (Book Review)

I was originally skeptical of diving into Sunderland, A Club Transformed, Jonathan Wilson’s book about the 2006-2007 season for the Black Cats. As much as I respect Jonathan Wilson’s intellect and analysis of topics related to football, there were two red flags for me. Firstly, any narrative about a single season in football tends to […]
