Alexi Lalas Strikes Again In Argument About MLS Inferiority Complex

In Roger Bennett's latest offering on ESPNFC.com, Alexi Lalas has once again said some incendiary things about soccer in the United States. In some cases Lalas is on the mark, but as is his custom, he overreaches and defeats his argument by going too far. For starters, this article was written with the USA's Gold […]

Despite Excellent Gold Cup, Landon Donovan Has Not Earned Automatic Selection

All of the headlines and analysis over the course of the last three weeks has been about how Landon Donovan has forced his way back into the United States starting XI with his performances against lesser competition and the Costa Rican “B” side (or in Honduras’ case almost a “C” side) in the Gold Cup. […]

Manchester City's South Africa Tour Exposes Why Club Upgraded Its Attack This Week

You can't read too much into preseason matches especially this early in training. But Manchester City's two loses in South Africa this week were more alarming for the lack of cutting edge in attack and industry from attacking players than the results themselves. Edin Dzeko, the club's leading scorer last season, looked well off the […]

Will American Owners Eventually Rip The Soul Out Of English Football?

While I find David Conn's alarmist piece in today's Guardian excessively xenophobic and reactionary, the continued buying of English football clubs by American owners does pose larger questions long term. Having bought teams that had this most previous season just avoided relegation, Randy Lerner (Aston Villa) and Ellis Short (Sunderland) have seen their sides continue […]

Mexico has won the last two Continental Championships in CONCACAF defeating the United States in the final on both occasions.
