Wolves and Whales (EPL Talk Preview Podcast)

The Champions League is back! With a BANG! AC Milan demolished Arsenal 4 – 0. In the pod today? Well, is it really all that bad to be beaten by the Italian Champions? A new team against another rebuilding side. Besides, 4 – 0 is just a bad day at the office, but if you have to many bad days at the office…well…you know what happens.

Anyway, in between all of the EPL action the SPL is suffering, Kartik joins the pod for one section to dissect the coming clashes in the Europa League and the fun of non-UCL competition. What can be achieved when the pressure is off.

Along with that, the FA Cup have 9 EPL teams still in there. Could it be an all EPL round of eight or will someone upset the applecart? With an easy route into Europe, the teams competing for fourth will have to look at their priorities and act fast to book their place next season. Liverpool lead the queue. Don’t they? Going out of cl is a blessing in disguise, have to be honest this team doesn’t has the balls to compete in cl. Securing 4th place has to be the goal.

  2. Robert Hay says:

I think Kristan nailed this one on the head for Arsenal. Zonal Marking noted that Arsenal did not play the wide game they should have, but I think the big key is Rosicky being the pivot in the midfield. If he is your playmaker, you’re done if you want to compete in the Champions League. Maybe Ramsey will get there but he’s racking up some miles so soon after coming off an injury. The club needed a creative attacking midfielder tonight and the lack of one showed, big time

As for the discussion about the team building strategy, my hope is that the likes of Arteta/Benayoun were stopgaps for this season. My hope is that the plan was to qualify for Champions League this year then reinvest some money in a top flight player plus some good young prospects. That said, this is Arsenal, so maybe I am setting myself up for more heartburn.
