USA-Mexico Gold Cup Final scores 8.7 million viewers on FS1 and Univision combined

CONCACAF’s 2019 edition of the Gold Cup Final between Mexico and the United States averaged 8.78 million viewers across Univision and FS1 on Sunday night. The final averaged 5.9 million on Univision, making it the most-watched men’s soccer match of 2019 on any network. It outperformed last year’s men’s France-Croatia World Cup final (7/15/18) on Telemundo as well as out-delivering Sunday’s Copa America and Women’s World Cup finals combined on Telemundo. It hasn’t always been pretty for the US at this Gold Cup, but they’ve managed to make it to the final. After solid wins of 4-0 and 6-0 against Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago, they struggled to beat Panama 1-0 but still locked up top spot in the group. They followed that up with an ugly 1-0 win over Curacao in the quarter-finals in which they were out-shot, out-possessed, out-hustled and out-worked.
