FOX Deportes to televise Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana tournaments again on US TV

FOX Deportes has announced that Spanish-language broadcasts of Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana will be returning to US airwaves through the end of the year. The Group Stages of the Copa Libertadores competition were aired on FOX Soccer 2GO streaming service earlier this year, but FOX Sports stopped broadcasting the games in February with no warning and no explanation. Presumably, FOX Sports and CONMEBOL weren’t able to agree on the rights to the competition. Chapecoense lose first Libertadores home match

Chapecó (Brazil) (AFP) – Chapecoense made an emotional but ultimately disappointing home debut in the Copa Libertadores losing their biggest hometown match since a plane crash all but wiped out the Brazilian club. The team, which is trying to rise from the ashes of the November 28 crash, lost to Argentine side Lanus 3-1 on a rainy night at Arena Conda, in the small southern city of Chapeco. The Copa Libertadores enters its Group Stage starting March 7, and will be shown to viewers in the United States. But there’s good news and bad news. First, the bad news is that with the release of its schedule for at least the first week of Group Stage, it is clear that FOX’s Spanish-language channel – FOX Deportes – will not have any coverage of the competition. Medellín (Colombia) (AFP) – Colombian giants Atletico Nacional won the Copa Libertadores for only the second time in their history after a 1-0 victory over Ecuadoran minnows Independiente del Valle secured a 2-1 aggregate triumph. Newly acquired striker Miguel Borja was the hero for Atletico, ramming home a low shot in the ninth minute as the Medellin-based side lifted South America’s premier continental club competition for the first time since 1989. Independiente stun Boca in Copa Libertadores semi-final

Quito (AFP) – Ecuadoran minnows Independiente del Valle upset Argentinian giants Boca Juniors 2-1 in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores semi-final clash.
