Liverpool Reaches Agreement With Southampton to Sign Dejan Lovren For £20million

Dejan Lovren Liverpool Reaches Agreement With Southampton to Sign Dejan Lovren For £20million

The deal between Southampton and Liverpool for center-back Dejan Lovren will be completed within the next 24-48 hours.

The agreement was reportedly in place earlier this week, but it is just now being confirmed that the Croatian defender will have a medical tomorrow before an announcement is officially made of his move to the Anfield club.

The 25-year-old made 31 appearances for Southampton last season and has been a Croatian international since 2009; making 28 appearances for his country.

The fee between the two Premier League clubs is rumored to be around £20 million.

If the deal goes through, Lovren will join a Liverpool side that has already signed several top players this summer including Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Rickie Lambert and Lazar Markovic, while the signing of Loic Remy appears to be nearing its completion.

Not sure this is the best center-back signing for Liverpool. I wasn’t impressed with his play in the World Cup. Got beaten by pace a lot and he can give away free kicks close to the box quite often. Might be a step up from a slowing Agger but not by much.

True, but he was fantastic most of the time for Southampton last season. He’s a proven commodity.

My guess is Agger is on his way out. He was great when he was fit and on his game. But he is so injury-prone, and he is obviously unhappy when he is not a starter. A three-man choice of Skrtel, Sakho, and Lovren is pretty good. Can’t think of too many other clubs in the league that have such good options.

Now we need some fullbacks. I don’t understand why a fit Enrique is not being considered. When he was fit two years ago I saw a lot of pace and a player who I’ve rarely seen beaten to a loose ball. He can also track back well and cover pacey forwards. In the preseason game against Roma no forward was able to beat Enrique to a loose ball. He also can set up combination play though he wont finish many of them.
