Chelsea have signed former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas for a transfer fee reported to be £26.6million.

Fabregas has joined on a four-year contract and will wear the number 4 shirt for Jose Mourinho’s team.

Chelsea began negotiations to sign Fabregas last week despite the fact that Barcelona initially wanted £45million for the footballer to ward off interest from Manchester United and Arsenal.

Regarding joining for Chelsea, Fabregas said:

“Firstly I would like to thank everyone at FC Barcelona where I enjoyed three wonderful years. It was my childhood club and I will always be proud and honoured that I had a chance to play for such a great team.

“I do feel that I have unfinished business in the Premier League and now is the right time to return.

“I considered all the other offers very carefully and I firmly believe that Chelsea is the best choice. They match my footballing ambitions with their hunger and desire to win trophies. They have an amazing squad of players and an incredible manager. I am fully committed to this team and I can’t wait to start playing.”

Fabregas should be in action for Spain this Friday when the star midfielder plays against the Netherlands in the World Cup.

Soccer fans, what’s your opinion about Fabregas joining the Blues, and will he be able to fit in with a Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea?

ugh. like when your ex girlfriend starts dating THAT guy.

  2. Proud Eurosnob says:

Firstly, I understand Fabregas’ need to be on the first team as an AM and he has been a bit out of place since hes been in Barcelona. But regardless, ever since Chelsea defeated Barca in the 2011 UCL semifinals, I regard any Spaniard signing with Chelsea as a traitor and Fabregas should have returned to Arsenal where he knows he is needed.

    • Spencer Johnson says:

Yes but Arsenal rejected the possibility of Cesc returning…City wasn’t a fit, ManU aren’t in the Champions League. If he wanted back in the Premier League, Chelsea was the only logical choice for him. KTBFFH!

  3. hoosiergunner says:

What a waste… completely illogical move. Despite being one of my favorite players, I cannot see this ending well for Cesc.

    • Bergkamp_10 says:

Barca/Arsenal both rejected him, so logic is the last thing that’s probably on his mind at this time.

  4. gillyrosh says:

    I just…WHAT is this?!?!
