Another promising young English footballer is considering his future at Manchester City as reports in England today are saying Scott Sinclair is ‘considering his future’ at the Etihad.

Last week, Jack Rodwell joined Sunderland on a five-year deal after spending the past two seasons in the blue half of Manchester.

Just a few days ago, when he was asked what advice he would give to teenagers who were being courted by the Premier League champions, the 23-year-old product of Everton’s youth academy warned English players not to sign for Manchester City.

“I would probably say don’t sign now, I’d say get as much football as you can,” Rodwell replied.

“The first thing I’d ask is, ‘how good are you?’ You just never know – you could go there, do really well and be winning league titles and everything.”

“But just because you’re English and young it doesn’t mean you’re not going to play for Manchester City.”

“I would just say weigh up your options and ask yourself if you want to be playing regularly.”

It appears those words have had an effect on current Manchester City winger, Scott Sinclair. The 25-year-old has come out in the press as saying he wants more playing time or he will have to look for other opportunities outside of the Etihad.

“Personally I’m just looking to play as many games as possible – I don’t know what the future holds,” Sinclair said.

“If the manager is going to give me game time, then I would love to stay.”

“But if that’s not the case I’m sure I’ll have to go elsewhere and to play more.”

“I’m just taking every game as it comes. I’ve played a lot in pre-season so hopefully that continues.”

It is true that Sinclair has seen a good amount of time during City’s preseason, but the team is missing the majority of its big money signings due to injuries and players still returning from their World Cup holidays.

Sinclair was used as a late substitute during Manchester City’s 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in yesterday’s FA Community Shield. And Manuel Pellegrini’s squad was far from full strength again.

So it seems the winger will be following the lead of Rodwell in the coming weeks before the transfer window closes.

Sinclair started his career with Bristol Rovers and spent time with the England U-17 and U-21 squads. He was once considered one of the country’s brighter young players after two solid seasons with Swansea City, which saw him make 82 appearances and while scoring 28 goals.

Since his move to Manchester City in August 2012, Sinclair has made only 11 appearances for the club and was sent out on loan to West Bromwich Albion last season.
