Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has pronounced himself “ready” to face for the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals against Barcelona on Wednesday

The early diagnosis for Lewandowski wasn’t good after the Poland international suffered a concussion and facial fractures during the Bavarian’s DFK Pokal semi-final defeat to Borussia Dortmund last week. The initial belief was the Polish international would not be named to the squad for their Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.

However, last Wednesday, the club’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge indicated the striker would be in the team next week after being fitted with a protective mask.

Later, Bayern boss Pep Guardiola said he would monitoring the player’s progress and indicated his immediate future was in the hands of the club’s doctors.

But, Lewandowski has announced to the world that he is fit and ready to take on Barcelona at the Camp Nou this week.

The Polish striker took to his official Twitter account to post an image of himself wearing a protective mask with the caption: “Ready for the next challenge!”

Should the club doctors agree and judge Lewandowski fit enough to travel and participate for Bayern Munich this week it will come as a huge lift for manager Pep Guardiola, who has seen his treble hopes dashed while having to manage a massive injury problem in recent weeks.

Guardiola already knows he will be without the services of Arjen Robben for the remainder of the season. The winger returned to action during the DFB-Pokal semi-final defeat to Dortmund only to be injured minutes after his introduction.

The Dutchman joined defenders David Alaba and Medhi Benatia on the squad’s injured list.

This weekend, Javi Martinez returned to action during the team’s 2-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen. However, Franck Ribery, Juan Bernat and Bastian Schweinsteiger remain doubts for the trip to the Camp Nou on Wednesday.

Programming note: Barcelona vs. Bayern Munich will be shown LIVE on Wednesday at 2:45pm EST on FOX Sports 1 and FoxSoccer2Go.
