Juan Mata Scores For Chelsea to Beat Arsenal and Reach Capital One Cup Quarter-Final [GIF]

Chelsea won the bragging rights in London tonight with a comfortable 2-0 victory against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup.

Cesar Azpilicueta opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 25th minute when he capitalized on a defensive blunder by Arsenal’s Carl Jenkinson who was unable to clear the ball to safety.

In the second half, Juan Mata put the game out of Arsenal’s reach with a perfectly hit shot that sailed into the far corner of the net.

  1. I hope tonight’s performance earns Mata some more game time. I would hate to see him leave either this January or next summer, but honestly couldn’t blame him unless he starts playing more games.

    1. I still prefer Mata as a CAM over oscar. I don’t necessarily think anyone should be ‘dropped’ as much as I think he derserves more starts within the rotation of the ridiculously stacked attacking midfield.
So I guess, to answer your question, Mata should be the starting CAM, and others should rotate around him, rather than Oscar being the automatic starter.

      1. Mehn….that is a tough call because Oscar is putting in overtime and also gives us versatility….kinda sad that Mata is not naturally built to help defend especially when they lose the ball vs the opposition but he has definitely shown he is also ready to improve his game. I think his moment will come…

    2. I think Mata should be part of the 3 attacking trio and they should be interchanging… there should be no ‘Oscar is the main CAM’ shenanigan… all three (Oscar, Mata & Hazard) can all play this position.
