Chelsea vs Swansea City, League Cup Semi-Final 1st Leg: Open Thread

chelsea swansea league cup Chelsea vs Swansea City, League Cup Semi Final 1st Leg: Open Thread

After yesterday’s spectacularly entertaining match between Bradford City and Aston Villa where the Bantams won the first leg 3-1, today’s attention turns to Stamford Bridge where Chelsea plays Swansea City in the other semi-final first leg.

In injury news, both John Terry and Petr Cech won’t be playing for Chelsea today. Demba Ba is eligible to play since he didn’t play for Newcastle United in the cup competition.

Swansea’s line-up should be interesting to see. In their FA Cup match last Sunday against Arsenal, Swansea dropped several players in order to play a weaker team, thus saving some players for today. Michu only played the second half against Arsenal, while Angel Rangel and Ashley Williams didn’t play either.

Chelsea lineup: Turnbull; Azpilicueta, Ibramovic, Cahill, Cole (c); Ramires, D Luiz; Hazard, Oscar, Mata; Torres

Swansea lineup: Tremmel, Rangel, Chico, Williams, Davies, Britton, de Guzman, Ki, Routledge, Hernandez, Michu

Tremmel, Rangel, Williams, Hernandez and Michu all start.

The match kicks off at 2:45pm ET. Live radio commentary is available via Talksport.co.uk

great game so far, Swansea really look good, an away goal now to boot! CFC schedule will hopefully be their achilles. After xmas period and now this game before the stoke game, I hope stoke get the win up at the Britannia after playing so well and being robbed at the bridge of a point by a last minute cole goal.

Watching these sky feeds just remind me how poor the football coverage out here is in comparison…NBC please do a good job, use sky as the benchmark not Fox.

  2. Tony Butterworth says:

I’m shocked this is not on US TV. They are showing rugby and champions league games ?

I disagree on the coverage, I think the coverage here is solid, I don’t watch analysis but we get a lot more games.

    • Dust says:

If you lived with the tripe coverage / analysis fox trot out , you would feel the same. It’s not that sky can’t be improved of course it can, but the level of analysis, insight, interviews, football conversation is so much higher as scary as that may sound to you.

The anchor for fox rob stone called Ian Rush a groundsman (seriously) on live tv because he didn’t know who was receiving the roses from charlton. And that is not the only time this kind of gaff happens, every week there are at lest 4 of 5 cringeworthy gaffs that should in now way happen.

The level of football conversation on the shows is just poor, the editing on the highlights is also very very poor…. Anyways, I could rant on but ugghh. Turns out BeIn shouldn’t have been allowed to buy the Capitol one rights, they are a la liga station, they will always prioritize that as it is their main market. They may as well have just bought the rights & just never show any games.

  3. The Gaffer says:

BRILLIANT win tonight for Swansea after a lot of hard work. There’s still a long way to go, but what a tight performance by the side tonight.

    Cheers,
    The Gaffer

  4. Jason says:

With the way the Swans are playing I don’t see Chelsea overcoming a 2-0 deficit. Also, away teams find it very difficult to win in Swansea.

  5. Dust says:

A great win for Swansea, THOROUGHLY deserved… Shocking defending at times by chavski…. I really hope stoke stuff them this weekend.

    • Sacto Blues says:

Oh Dust, we get two and its anybodies tie. Chelsea will be back.

    • Jason says:

Chelsea will take out their angst on Stoke I fear. Terry is probably going to play this weekend and he will hold that defense together better. Should be an interesting game though.

  6. The Gaffer says:

I’m not saying this just because Swansea won tonight, but I’d argue that the League Cup this season is far more thrilling than the FA Cup. Unfortunately the fourth round didn’t conjure up any mouthwatering matchups between david and goliath, while the League Cup this season has had some wonderfully exciting games in each round.

    Cheers,
    The Gaffer

    • David says:

Too bad most people haven’t been able to see the League Cup games since beIN Sport is not available to the majority of fans. But I’ll take your word for it.

  7. Tony Butterworth says:

Any thoughts on why this was not on TV ?
