Sevilla have announced that Fernando Llorente is undergoing a medical with a view to join the Primera Division club on a permanent transfer from Juventus.

The 30-year-old forward is set to return to La Liga just two years after leaving Athletic Bilbao to join Juventus.

He is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Europa League winners once his contract with the Italian champions is terminated.

A statement from Sevilla read: “Fernando Llorente will arrive tonight in Sevilla with the permission of his club, Juventus, to undergo in the next few hours a medical with Sevilla FC.”

The Spain international scored 11 goals in 30 league starts for Juve last season to help the Turin giants win the domestic double – Serie A and Coppa Italia – as well as finish runners-up to Barcelona in the Champions League.

Llorente, who has two years left on his contract with Juve, has opted to leave the club after the Italian champions strengthened their attack this summer with the arrival of Mario Mandzukic, Paulo Dybala and Simone Zaza.

He has been linked to top European clubs this summer, including Real Madrid, Monaco, FC Porto, Manchester United and Arsenal.

Sevilla are keen to strengthen their front-line after selling Carlos Bacca, their top scorer in the past two seasons, to AC Milan last month.

The Andalusian club, coached by Unai Emery, will play in the Champions League group stages this season.
