FOX Sports has announced that John Strong will be the lead commentator for its coverage of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

So far, FOX has announced that Strong will be joined by co-commentators Brad Friedel (for the US’ opening game against Honduras) and Alexi Lalas (for the July 13 game versus Panama). Other co-commentators that will be covering the Gold Cup for FOX are Warren Barton, Brian Dunseth, Stu Holden, Cobi Jones and Janusz Michallik.

The rest of the commentators for the other matches of the Gold Cup includes Steve Cangialosi, Keith Costigan, Glenn Davis, JP Dellacamera and Mark Rogondino.

This will be the second major tournament for FOX this summer and is part of their “Summer of Soccer” series that features 200 games between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Overall, FOX’s coverage of the Women’s World Cup has been met with mixed praise with the graphics and visuals receiving the highest accolades.

Announcing Strong as lead play-by-play analyst is a smart call on FOX’s part as he’ll likely have a better grasp on most of the USMNT players given that he’s the lead voice for MLS with FOX.

The talent that will be working the Gold Cup for FOX gives a good indication of the number of people who cover the sport for FOX — given that the crew for the Women’s World Cup is almost completely different than the Gold Cup pool.
