Liverpool have agreed a deal with Valencia to sign French left-back Aly Cissokho on a season-long loan. However, the defender won’t be available for tomorrow’s game against Stoke City, and will be arriving on Merseyside next week.

For several weeks, the British press have been reporting that Brendan Rodgers had been keen on signing Cissokho. But after the initial interest dissipated, Liverpool tried to sign Granada left back Guilherme Siqueira. When the two clubs were unable to reach a deal, Liverpool moved back to sign Cissokho on a season-long loan deal that could be a permanent signing if the Frenchman impresses.

Cissokho is a 25-year-old defender who has played at Lyon, Valencia, Porto and other clubs.
