Reading are poised to announce Gus Poyet as their new manager to replace Brian McDermott who was sacked nine days ago.

The Brighton and Hove Albion manager has steered the south coast club to seventh place in the Championship, just one spot behind a play-off position. Poyet, who has been in charge at Brighton since 2009, is understood to have met Reading’s Russian owner Anton Zingarevich and that the Berkshire club is willing to offer Brighton £2 million in compensation by breaking the Uruguayan’s contract to take him to Reading.

Reading sit in 19th place in the Premier League, and are currently seven points away from moving out of the relegation drop zone with eight matches remaining in the season.

Is survival for Reading too much to ask for? Will Poyet be a sound appointment, or should he try to get Brighton promoted to the Premier League instead? Have your say in the comments section below.
