This weekend saw the top two reassert their dominance and pull even further away from the six teams below who all failed to record wins.

Manchester City’s late, late winner at Spurs kept a cushion between themselves and the chasers and won them a total of 6.40. Spurs, playing away at the team top of the league, picked up a reasonable 1.78 points for their losing effort.

Manchester United closed the gap at the top by 0.92 points with their away win at Arsenal. The away win bonus took United’s tally to 7.32 points and they now have eight wins on their travels, two more than anyone else in the league. The defeat condemned Arsenal to their third defeat in five and a miserable position of 19th in the form table below Wolves and Everton who are both winless during that time.

With three wins shared out between the teams in the top half of the table, week 22 saw another decent week for those in the bottom half with QPR and West Brom both picking up impressive wins.

It’s Roy Hodgson’s men who pick up the accolade of top scorers of the week with their away win at Stoke who were seven places higher in the league. John Walters’s missed penalty proved costly as the Baggies late winner now mean that they sit only 4.21 points behind Stoke and the top half of the league. The win means that the bottom five are now even further adrift of the rest, there is a 9.63 difference between 16th and 15th.

But amid the castaways there is a team showing some resistance. At present Blackburn Rovers find themselves 4th in the form table after picking up two wins, two draws and only one defeat in their last five games. Their point tally in that five game stretch is 23.80, more than a third of their entire score to date. Contrast this with Wigan who appear to be in free fall. The Latics have picked up 12.46 in the same period, just over half the amount of relegation rivals Blackburn.

Bolton also gave their points total a much needed freshening up with an impressive win over goal-shy Liverpool. They recorded a very impressive home win total of 7.14, an amount that few have bettered this season.

  • Biggest score: West Brom 7.41
  • Lowest score: Liverpool 1.00
  • Best draw score: Norwich 3.94
