Manchester United today officially announced details of its 2011 US summer tour. The Red Devils will play a series of five games across the United States with stops in Boston, Seattle, Chicago, New York/New Jersey and Washington D.C.

The five game tour will feature games against:

  • New England Revolution, Gillette Stadium, Boston, July 13
  • Seattle Sounders, Qwest Field, Seattle, July 20
  • Chicago Fire, Soldier Field, Chicago, July 23
  • MLS All-Star team, Red Bull Arena, New Jersey, July 27
  • Barcelona, FedEx Field, Washington DC, July 30

“Obviously, we’re really excited to have United back in the States this Summer,” said David Herman, head of public relations and marketing for OneUnitedUSA, the official Manchester United Membership and Supporters Club of America. “The USA Tour is a tremendous opportunity for their most ardent fans in America to show their support for their favorite Club, while also leaving a lasting legacy for those new and lifelong supporters of Manchester United to build upon for years to come. Having them in America, again, is truly special.”

In select cities, Manchester United will be conducting open training sessions and special events that will be open to only members of the official USA Supporters Club.

Manchester United last toured North America in the summer of 2010 when they played friendlies in Toronto, Philadelphia, Kansas City, Houston and Guadalajara. The tour was a rousing success for United and saw the debut of Mexican superstar Javier Hernandez (aka Chicharito). In previous years, Manchester United conducted pre-season tours of North America in 1950, 1952, 1960, 1970, 1976, 1978, 1980, 1982, 2003, 2004 and 2010.

My Girlfriend and I will going to Chicago to attend the United v Fire match and are excited as it will be our first time seeing the red devils up close. I have warned my girlfriend not to expect “1 point gap to win the league” match, but we’re both still thrilled to see them play the beautiful game.

I was wondering though… if United get a big signing during the summer such as Sneijder for a potential fee of £40 million or someone else of that nature, do you think he or whoever the giant signing may be will tour the U.S. with United? I realize Chicharito made his debut vs the MLS All Stars, but the little pea was a bargain for £6 million.

      @ The Juice:
Part of the deal with Xavier when we signed him is that we would tour USA and play Chivas.
If we sign anyone big (which I really hope we don’t waste money on Schneider, good as he is, I think Rodwell coming in. Cleverly back from Wigan (loan), & Rooney between front & midfield with Michael & Fletch is the bomb! – youth baby, only way to go)
Then they will join team back in UK before EPL starts.

      Red until I’m Dead.. & beyond…

  3. I would like to know when, and where I can buy ticket’s for this aprticular game there is a bunch of friends driving to Washintong D.C. and I’m a Soccer freak would love to see Valencia (Ecuadorian Player) play ,however Cup of America will be done on July the 24 which is close to the friendly game. Meaning if Messi,Mascherano and Alves wiil not be at the game I don’t think Valencia will be there either, We need him in the “Ecuadorian National Team”

  4. Ryan says:

    Guys,

I saw the reds in Toronto (GREAT GAME!!) last year and they lacked a lot of key players who were away with the world cup (that was my only problem with the game – the lack of names like Rooney!!) – so expect to actually see the BIG names on the team this summer when they come here – its their way of ‘making up’ for last year ;)
