Transfer News

  • Darren Huckerby will be joining San Jose on July 15th. More on this story later in the day.
  • Brian McBride’s potential move to Chicago is on hold as Toronto who strangely holds McBride’s MLS rights have balked at any combination of players or money that Chicago is willing to send to the Reds for the right to sign McBride.
  • ESPN’s Allan Hopkins reported last night that Brad Guzan could be headed to Aston Villa within the next few weeks, if Guzan receives a work permit from the UK Home Office.
  • Honduran international George Welcome’s attempt to begin a trial with Red Bull NY has been blocked by New England who filed a discovery claim on him in March. Welcome scored the winning goal in the CONCACAF U-23 Championship final as Honduras beat the USA in extra time, 1-0. Soccer by Ives reported the story last night.

The discovery rule strikes again in NY. Is this rule crushing the growth of the league. Seems so.
I should be seeing Brian McBride tonight at Toyota Park, but at least will get a Blanco bobblehead!

As I write this ,the ink is dry on Brad Guzan's deal. Great for him, a Chicago guy who was developed in part by the Fire. However, another America playing in England. It's hurting to see so many go at this point. Not only MLS but FIFA and UEFA has to keep good American players home in the long run they all benefit.
