FIFA is investigating a possible unmanned flying machine that was allegedly spying on French training earlier this week. The drone was spotted flying above the French training base in Ribeirao Preto.
Drones are becoming commonplace in military and intelligence work but to this point have not been known to be used in sporting competition.
France National Team Manager Didier Deschamps told the BBC:
“Apparently drones are used more and more. We don’t want intrusion into our privacy. It’s hard to fight. It’s not up to me – Fifa handles this and has been carrying out an inquiry”
The French are preparing to take on Honduras in the Group E opener on Sunday in Porto Allegre. Switzerland and Ecuador are also in Group E, and those two sides will face off also on Sunday.
