News and notes

Ike Opara got his first career goal for the Earthquakes, the winner in the 2-1 victory over the Fire. … Sebastien Le Toux had one goal in his first 29 career MLS appearances before his hat trick in the Union’s thrilling 3-2 home win against D.C. United. … Speaking of hat tricks, New England rookie Zack Schilawski had one in the 4-1 thumping of Toronto FC. … Much was made of Landon Donovan’s return to MLS in time for the start of this season, and he’s played well. But Edson Buddle has all five of the Galaxy’s goals this season in their 3-0-0 start. … There are two games in the 2010 U.S. Open Cup this week, with Colorado visiting Kansas City on Tuesday and Real Salt Lake playing at San Jose on Wednesday.

    In a league with as much parity as the MLS has, being a Toronto or DC fan right now has to be a little bit frightening.

    It is only three games in, but when 1-1-1 gets you tied with virtually every team out there, DC is 0 for 3 with -7 goal differential and a loss to an expansion team that didn’t look good in the other game they played. Ouch.

    Really like having the Thursday night game on ESPN and the late night FSC game. A FSC doubleheader is even better.

    Saw my first professional soccer game this weekend! It was great to see the Revs take down TFC.
