Website Football As Football Merging NFL And Soccer Closer Together

Many have often stated the difference between American Football and Soccer is rather profound with there being little evidence, at least on the pitch, to suggest that statement is untrue. However, a website by the name of Football as Football has rather ingeniously found a way to fuse both sports and produce completely original items of clothing. In the simplest terms, the concept is a complete redesign of the 32 NFL teams’ logos in the perceived style of soccer logos. For example, the logo selected for the Green Bay Packers has striking similarities to that of Schalke 04 of the German ... Read more

Watching the Premier League From the West Coast of America

It’s almost 5.30am Pacific time as he drives hurriedly in his dark blue Chevy S-10 to his fellow Liverpool supporting friend’s house. Kick-off is nigh, and he breaks the law by checking his Twitter feed to see if the Reds have included any surprise inclusions in the lineup. Despite his lack of sleep and being behind the wheel of a car, he’s more concerned by whether his team will secure a precious three points. His name is Connor and he is sober, just tired. He is making the trip to my house to watch our beloved Reds. We are two ... Read more

Henry’s Magical Goal Takes Down the Crew

When you have seen a world class striker perform many times, either on television or in-person, you think you have seen that player do everything.  Then they score an amazing highlight reel goal that makes you scratch your head and you remember their greatness.  Thierry Henry is that player. In the mid-week early afternoon game against the Chicago Fire on July 18th it was the kiss off the inside of the near post and in after a Sebastien LeToux cross that he settled off his chest. This time it would be inside second half stoppage time that got the 17,000 ... Read more

Weekend Results Tighten Eastern Conference Race

Injuries, an international break, and a bevy of good matches gave MLS fans a number of games to watch Friday and Saturday.  With the number of games to be played dwindling, every match-up takes on that much more importance, and this weekend the results shook up the Eastern Conference standings. On Friday, a back and forth match saw the first place team grab a point in the last minute as Sporting Kansas City drew the Houston Dynamo 1-1.  Despite dominating the run of play early, the good Dynamo midfield was able to bottle the home team’s passing game while Brad ... Loss to Seattle Shows Fallacy of Chivas Playoff Hopes

In political parlance, the “laugh test” is the method to determine the reality of a proposal or idea, as in if a person laughs when you tell them your solution to a problem, it both unrealistic and ridiculous.  A few weeks back on the MLS Talk podcast (subscribe on iTunes today) I suggested that Chivas USA could make a playoff run, a suggestion that I almost made without chuckling to myself.  In fact, if you look at the standings, Chivas is in a position to make a playoff run as they are ten points behind fifth place (and slumping) Vancouver but have ... DC Dominates in 4-2 Win Over Fire

What do the Michigan Bucks and DC United have in common? They are the only two teams to score more than two goals against the Chicago Fire in 2012, but last night the Fire could only blame themselves (and not dodgy turf or a backup XI) for an embarrassing loss.  With a loud but small home town crowd, DC United used speed and an unconventional line-up (for them) to tear apart one of the best defenses in the league and firmly insert themselves back into the hunt for a top three spot in the Eastern Conference with a 4-2 win. DC United ... Read more

MLS Must Show Spine and Suspend Beckham

It’s finally come.  After a few years of dangerous tackles and public outbursts against officials, MLS finally has a very public example of poor behavior by David Beckham that will either lead to a suspension or a discrediting of league management.  Saturday night saw the best and worst of Beckham: his lovely free kick goal … and his very public outburst at the end of the game.  The video below shows Beckham kicking the ball towards the official and refusing to leave the field during a post-game scrum, both offenses that can lead to suspensions (see a better version of ...
